City Commission Climate Change Hearing:
The postponed hearing on the City of Bozeman task force's recommendations to implement the Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement is finally happening this Monday, August 4, 6 p.m. at the Gallatin County Courthouse, 3rd floor.
I believe you'll agree with me the task force did an excellent job of preparing recommendations on how city government can comply with the climate protection agreement. You can read the task force's report by going to the City of Bozeman home page, http://www.bozeman.net, and clicking on the link to the report toward the bottom of the page.
Testimony of as many of us as possible is needed to support one recommendation in particular, that the city immediately tackle part 2 of implementing the climate protection agreement, which means appointing another task force, this time to develop a community plan.
Can you attend? Please respond if you think you can attend (mar...@mcn.net). Testimony can be short and informal. Just having a bunch of people in the room will be a help. The last time we thought the hearing was happening only 3 people planned to attend. We need a crowd to give the Commission support for adopting the task force's recommendations, and also to move expeditiously to develop a community plan.
Many of the best ideas that our informal local group, Citizens Concerned about Climate Change, suggested to the Commission when we successfully urged them to adopt the climate protection agreement related to what would be addressed in a community plan, which addresses what individuals, businesses, and other institutions (MSU, county, etc.) in addition to city government can do. Bozeman's carbon footprint won't significantly reduce unless a community-wide effort is sparked.
