The Gallatin Grassroots Forum presents the Gallatin Valley Speaker Series,

"COMPLETE STREETS: Making Our Streets Work For Everyone,"

7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, in the Museum of the Rockies' Hager Auditorium.

All across the country, streets are being designed and redesigned for people, not just cars.  Join two Complete Streets national experts, Michael Ronkin and Roger Henderson, as they present on what is a complete street, how it shapes a livable, walkable community and how to work towards local complete streets policy development and implementation.

Michael Ronkin is a nationally acknowledged expert in designing streets to better accommodate all users including pedestrians and bicyclists, people with disabilities, transit users as well as motorists. He worked as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Manager for the Oregon Department of Transportation from 1984 to 2006. He now consults with communities across the nation as well as internationally to help citizens, as well as planners and engineers, achieve their goals of place-making, building livable communities, and reaching consensus on critical design issues.

Roger Henderson is an accomplished leader in forging multi-disciplined teams to enhance how transportation contributes to healthy, vibrant communities. He is a coauthor of "Context-Sensitive Solutions for Major Urban Thoroughfares in Walkable Communities". His expertise is leading teams of planners, engineers and landscape architects with the know-how to design real-life solutions so that more people walk, bicycle and ride transit.

Our streets are one of our most valuable public assets and can shape our lives in many ways. They drive land use decisions, and can either be inviting, vibrant, safe places where seniors feel comfortable walking or taking transit and parents feel comfortable letting their children walk to school, or they can be places where only cars feel at home. At a time when energy scarcity, climate change, air quality and obesity are issues at the forefront for policy makers, health officials and the public, our streets can be at least part of the solution.

Bozeman is currently updating the Bozeman 2020 Plan as well as the Bozeman Area Transportation Plan and citizen input is greatly appreciated and needed during this process.  If you live in Gallatin County or the region, this presentation will give you valuable information to bring back to your community.  There will be time for discussion on this important topic after the presentation.

Please join the conversation on Thursday, June 12 at 7PM, Museum of the Rockies Hager Auditorium. For more information, please contact Cathy Costakis at 406.994.5734 or cost...@montana.edu.

This event is presented by the Gallatin Grassroots Forum as part of the Gallatin Valley Speaker Series in order to generate ideas, facilitate informed conversation and provide information to the community to help it successfully manage change and growth.  For more information, please visit our website at:  http://gallatingrassrootsforum.googlepages.com
