Recently we are getting more and more questions from users and it becomes harder to maintain the forum in parallel to projects core maintenance. We are glad to help you with your questions and issues related to Galen Framework but to make it more efficient please make sure to comply with the following guidelines.
Kindly DO (if possible)
- provide all most valuable information like:
- version of Galen Framework
- how is it used (Java tests, JavaScript tests, Standard Galen Test Suites)
- url of the website where this issue could be reproduced. If it is an internal application then the best you can do is create a small sample html code that we could use for debugging.
- complete stacktraces. Make sure you copy all error messages.
- Test and specs code.
- In case it is a formatting, encoding or indentation issue please share the link for the project sources. Do not post the code on the forum as it gets auto-formatted here.
- Galen Html reports.
- Use code blocks formatting.
- Structure your topic so it is easier to understand the issue your are dealing with.
Please DONT
- use only summary. Some users post questions using only summary and they don't provide any details in description. This is not acceptable and nobody wants to waste time asking topic-starter for more details.
- post screenshots of your command line. That is not acceptable. Instead please copy and paste it in the topic and use code formatting for it so it is easier to read.
- ask to do your job. If you are having troubles learning the specs language or just framework in general and because of this you can't do something for your own project - DON'T ask someone else to do this for you. We are always glad to help you with issues that you experience in Galen Framework but if it is just about writing "getting started" project for your specific needs, then this is not acceptable.
- threat that your team or company will abandon the framework. Some people say that they need something to be fixed ASAP otherwise they will switch to something else. I am immune to such kind of statements. Every issue is picked up according to its actual priority and not according to how big the company or team that needs it is.
And one last thing. Please DONT EVER spam me or any other project contributor in private just to get attention to your question if you don't get instant answer on forum. Some people are sending me private emails, then trying to find me on Skype, LinkedIn, on Google+ and on Facebook. But the thing is - there might be lots of other unanswered questions and not always I have the time to reply to all of them in one day. Sometimes it might take a day, sometimes a week depending on how swamped I am. So as any other project contributor. Galen Framework is a free open-source framework. Nobody is getting money for it and everyone is working just on pure enthusiasm.
Kind regards,
Ivan
