Hey. It's been a while since GalaxyMage.org went down, a long time
ago, and recently after replaying FFT:WotL again I had a hankering to
go and look for it again. The site was still down to no surprise, but
I found this group and had my hopes renewed. The game was very
promising from where I had been looking.

Basically, I want to help out. I have no experience in computer or
software programming, but I'm pretty decent at art in general, having
a little experience in 3D modelling, quite a bit of experience in
spriting, as well as having a pretty good grasp of digital painting,
concept art, and similar things. Is there anything I can do to help
out at this point?

Welcome!
There are indeed things to help with right now, especially in the art
department, or if you care to take the time the mod department.
We just built a basic engine over the course of a week for the Pyweek
competition, so we do have some semblance of a game done at this
moment.

There are a lot of things that need to be fixed/changed - but you can
start making art at any time, so feel free to check out the google
code page and grab the SVN - I'll add you to the group when I get a
free moment...

Thanks for the reply.

Another question I have is - I'd like to contribute things like
concept art and larger images, basically things like portraits. So I'd
like to ask, exactly what kind of style are you guys looking for in
your game? For instance, I know Wesnoth has very strict restrictions
as to what kind of artwork can appear ingame, so it'd be good if you
could tell me what you're looking for. My artwork resembles anime,
having been inspired heavily by JRPGs and the like.

Are you going for a Tolkien-esque fantasy look? Or can it be more
stylized? Would an animesque style be acceptable?

I can't check your deviant right now, but basically we have nothing set atm.
It is very Wesnoth-like, but the thing with our engine is you can implement anything you like, if you add anime style images they can be put in a mod that keeps it consistent that way :)

I don't want to place many restrictions on the game right now. :)

A couple Sarme units as well as a general idea of what I think the
Wastemen would look like.

The design document is very barebones, which allowed me to come up
with these ideas. I made the Sarme basically Chinese steampunk - maybe
I should shorten it to bamboopunk, and the Wastemen a combination of
Indian, Islamic, and Ancient Egyptian cultures. I'm thinking of a
chess motif with the Watchers right now, since the whole knights and
cavalry thing really reminds me of that. I'm not too sure how to make
the Forlorn stand out, though.

Indeed, actually all of teh documents are outdated except for teh "RB[0]'s design notes" - so feel free to add your own factions as you feel like it :)
Perhaps at our next irc meeting we can work on some basic factions or something.

BTW - loving the art style man!

Hmmm... Looking around and asking a few questions, it seems that there
isn't much right now. What kind of things can I do to help out at the
moment? What kind of resources do you guys need?

Well anything graphically will be nice.
GFX, units, animations, etc.

I had a crazy couple of weeks, but hopefully I'll get some dev work in here soon so I can give you something to work on :)

Well, at the present point we were doing something like 32x64 or something, just check the code.google.com page. One thing though is if you want your sprites animated they are going to eventually be gif images...
