Brothers,

I started working on questions for chapter 6 this morning and realized
that there is reasonable continuity from 5:13 up through 6:10. If you
want to be prepared to go into Ch 6 this coming Thursday, here are
some questions that may be helpful to prep. Once again, I welcome
critique, comments, and clarifications to these questions. I would
also be delighted if you would ask some of your own.

Blessings!
Justin

1) From the flow of thought from Ch5, what would he mean by “ye who
are spiritual?” What qualifies someone to be characterized as
spiritual?
2) What does it look like to be “overtaken in a fault?”
3) What responsibility/authority do we have to restore someone
described in this verse? What attitude is to go along with the duty?
How does that attitude look in action?
4) What does it mean to carry another person’s burden? Is he playing
off the Roman soldier law of similar to carrying two miles vs. one
mile? Why the positive use of the word law along with the notion that
one can fulfill it. Sounds a little bit risky to flirt with such a
sensitive topic from this book. Is he being flirtatious or pointed?
5) After two charges (commands, injunctions) to restore (v1) and bear
(v2) he asks these recipients to be personally reflective (v3-5).
What’s the author’s intent in calling them to discriminate and
evaluate their own life/heart?
6) What is the flow of thought getting from a charge to carry other’s
weights and be personally reflective to all the sudden charging them
to recognize/support those who teach them?
7) Why the sudden change in tone in v7 to one of caution and warning?
How does this deception compare with the deception that they were
accused in 3:1?
8) How could God be mocked in this path of deceived thinking?
9) As he articulates the “Law of the Harvest”, how does 6:7-10 differ/
compare with 6:13-15? Is this a re-statement of the same or rather
unique and different in thought?
10) Why the priority in v10 for the family of believers?

Correction:

Question 9 should be 5:13-15, not 6:13-15.

My mistake.

Brothers,

Here are some questions for Gal 6 that may prove useful in excavating
the passage. The study is at our home this next time, and we'll look
forward to seeing you at 7:20 Thursday evening.

Galatians 6 - Questions

1) From the flow of thought from Ch5, what would he mean by "ye who are
spiritual?" What qualifies someone to be characterized as spiritual?
2) What does it look like to be "overtaken in a fault?"
3) What responsibility/authority do we have to restore someone described
in this verse? What attitude is to go along with the duty? How does
that attitude look in action?
4) What does it mean to carry another person's burden? Is he playing
off the Roman soldier law of similar to carrying two miles vs. one mile?
Why the positive use of the word law along with the notion that one can
fulfill it. Sounds a little bit risky to flirt with such a sensitive
topic from this book. Is he being flirtatious or pointed?
5) After two charges (commands, injunctions) to restore (v1) and bear
(v2) he asks these recipients to be personally reflective (v3-5). What's

7) Why the sudden change in tone in v7 to one of caution and warning?
How does this deception compare with the deception that they were

8) How could God be mocked in this path of deceived thinking?
9) As he articulates the "Law of the Harvest", how does 6:7-10
differ/compare with 6:13-15? Is this a re-statement of the same or
rather unique and different in thought? ( re-read this questions days
later and could not figure out what I was asking. Delete if if you
like.)
10) Why the priority in v10 for the family of believers?
11) In the last 8 verses, Paul offers insight into the personal motives
of the two sides. Why dies he bring up the large letters?
12) How would the Judaizers suffer persecutions for the cross of Christ
if they conceded circumcisn.
13) What was the glory Paul shunned and what was the glory he welcomed?
What is good glorying and what does that look like today?
14) What does he mean that the world is crucified to him and he to the
world?
15) From vss 15-16, what's a good question you could ask yourself to
determine if you have bought into a false gospel?

nice little summation i read today...

Monergistic Regeneration

Since faith is infinitely beyond all the power of our unregenerated human nature, it is only God who can give the spiritual ears to hear and eyes to see the beauty of Christ in the gospel. God alone disarms the hostility of the sinner turning his heart of stone to a heart of flesh. It is God, the Holy Spirit, alone who gives illumination and understanding of His word that we might believe; It is God who raises us from the death of sin, who circumcises the heart; unplugs our ears; It is God alone who can give us a new sense, a spiritual capacity to behold the beauty and unsurpassed excellency of Jesus Christ. The apostle John recorded Jesus saying to Nicodemus that we naturally love darkness, hate the light and WILL NOT come into the light (John 3:19, 20). And since our hardened resistance to God is thus seated in our affections, only God, by His grace, can lovingly change, overcome and pacify our rebellious disposition. The natural man, apart from the quickening work of the Holy Spirit, will not come to Christ on his own since he is at enmity with God and cannot understand spiritual things (1 Cor 2:14). Shining a light into a blind man's eyes will not enable him to see, because eyesight first requires a set of healthy eyes. Likewise, reading or hearing the word of God alone cannot elicit saving faith in the reader (1 Thess 1:4, 5) unless God plows up the fallow ground of our hearts and the Spirit "germinates" the seed of the word, opening our eyes to see Christ's true beauty and excellency and uniting us to Him through a Spirit-wrought faith. So the problem of conversion is not with the Word or God's Law but with man's prideful heart. The humility required to submit to the gospel is, therefore, not prompted by man's will but by God's mercy (Rom 9:16) since no one can believe the gospel unless God grants it (John 6:63, 65). As an example of how the Spirit uses the means of the spoken word to disarm closed hearts, the Book of Acts records the work of the Holy Spirit during the preaching of the apostles and, in one instance, states that "the Lord opened her [Lydia's] heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul," (Acts 16:14). The Spirit must likewise give all His people spiritual life and understanding if their hearts are to be opened and thus respond to Christ in faith.
