To authenticate, you must open the QR scanner available within WeChat mobile and use it to scan the QR code visible on your desktop. The moment you log in, all information on WeChat mobile gets synced with your computer, and you can easily access all your messages, shared media, social pages, and more. You can also use the Windows app to create a backup and save all essential data on your computer.
The inbuilt keyboard of the application also offers various functionalities. You can use it to record and send voice messages, add emoticons to your texts, and share images or videos. A great aspect of using WeChat from your Windows desktop is the program's ability to let you send media, documents, and other files saved on your computer. Since all messages get mirrored on your phone, you can easily access them anywhere as well.
As mentioned earlier, the WeChat app lets you share files with your contacts directly from your computer. An addition to it is cloud storage, wherein you can drag and drop files on a chatbox from your phone and later download them on your computer. The software also offers a snapshot tool that lets you capture any part of your desktop screen, edit it, and send it to your contacts instantly!
i have friends in china and i want to communicate with them using wechat.. i have already downloaded wechat on my mobile phone but i am having a hardtime chatting with them on my phone so i want to install wechat for windows PC, but i have read in some websites that it uses a lot of resources and uses a lot of space..
WeChat video calls work fine on my mobile device, however on my laptop WeChat app, I have the video icon and can click on the icon, the receiver is unable to see me. Microphone is working fine on both mobile phone WeChat app and WeChat desktop app
Same version of WeChat desktop app downloaded from same source is working fine on the similar laptops of my 2 of my colleagues (all 3 laptops are same model and same configuration and were bought together). Somehow, WeChat app is not able to open camera in video chat on my laptop.
I tried to outsmart them by using the wechat web app and this worked for a while too. But now what happens is that when the user scans the code it then takes them a page which says that they need to install the Desktop app instead.
Hopefully I'm asking this in the right area but I apologize if not, I was referred here by an Independent Advisor on the Microsoft Community forums: -us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/what-is-blocking-the-tencent-wechat-desktop/21a0c93c-eade-4b6f-be69-6f90eaf12fad
I work for a company that does a lot of business in the PRC. We only have a couple of users located there but one of them uses the Tencent WeChat desktop application for filesharing, IMing, etc. purposes.
This post dives into the growth strategy that led to key WeChat milestones, lessons learned and gives insight into the method behind the madness as WeChat scaled from 0 to 800M+ MAUs in less than 6 years. Unlike AOL and Yahoo, Tencent is one of the few companies to have evolved its messaging product portfolio successfully from a web/desktop product to a mobile/messaging platform.
If you don't want to install the WeChat client app on your PC or the Wi-Fi connection is not available currently, you can also use the WeChat web version to back up WeChat messages to a PC. The operations are similar to what you do with the WeChat desktop client app. But we will still offer you a detailed tutorial.
By 2010, Tencent had already attained a massive user base with their desktop messenger app QQ. Recognizing smart phones were likely to disrupt this status quo, CEO Pony Ma sought to proactively invest in alternatives to their own QQ messenger app.[28]
There have been some reported issues with the Web client.[112] Specifically when using English, some users have experienced autocorrect, autocomplete, auto-capitalization, and auto-delete behavior as they type messages and even after the message was sent. For example, "gonna" was autocorrected to "go", the E's were auto-deleted in "need", "wechat" was auto-capitalized to "Wechat" but not "WeChat", and after the message was sent, "don't" got auto-corrected to "do not". However, the auto-corrected word(s) after the message was sent appeared on the phone app as the user had originally typed it ("don't" was seen on the phone app whereas "do not" was seen on the Web client). Users could translate a foreign language during a conversation and the words were posted on Moments.[113]
Although to a lesser extent, QR codes are also used for online payment on the desktop or on other sites (similarly to checking out with PayPal in the US): people use an app such as WeChat or AliPay to scan a uniquely generated QR code presented by the site at checkout. Once users scan the QR code, their money is sent by WeChat to the site, and the payment is completed.
I wish the desktop version of WeChat was able to login without qr code scan. I have an older nokia smart phone with an older mobile version of WeChat that does not support qr code scanning. I also hope future WeChat can support screenshot image taker like line does. Also no video chat/voice chat : / Overall compared to other desktop messaging clients I give WeChat 5.5 out of 10
The first tip on this list is that you can get the software from the Microsoft Store and start exploring it. Just like using the messenger from your smartphone, you can do the same from your desktop. For you to do that, you should follow the steps below:
Step 5: At this point, you can transfer data from your mobile device to your desktop from the File Transfer option. You can also drag and drop your videos and photos into the File Transfer folder. Also, you will be receiving instant message notifications on your palmtop.
Step 5: Once you have done that, you will notice that the WeChat interface will pop up on your computer screen. At this point, you can respond to messages from your desktop using your keyboard and mouse.
In countries like China, mini apps have taken the market by storm.Apart from mobile devices, where mini apps are omnipresent and which are their natural habitat, miniapps have started to conquer other runtime environments like cars and the classic desktop.
Using the WeChat desktop client available formacOSand Windows), it is possible to run WeChatmini apps on the desktop. (Make sure to not load the macOSversion from the App Storeif you are doing research and want the full experience, since it is more limited.)
To test it on macOS, share a mini app from a mobile device with yourself via the "File Transfer"account. This will result in a message that you can then open on the desktop client. In most cases, the mini app will then be directly clickable and runnable. In other cases, you have to forward thechat history to yourself again from a mobile device.
WeChat mini apps on the desktop naturally integrate with the operating system. On both macOS andWindows, they get their own entry in the multitasking bar and have their own taskbar icon. While onmacOS, there is an option to be kept in the Dock, the icon disappears the moment the WeChat clientapp gets closed. On Windows, mini app icons can be pinned to the taskbar, but cannot be launched. OnmacOS, the title of the app is always "WeChat" and not the actual title of the app, whereas thetitle is displayed correctly on Windows.
360 mini apps can run in fullscreen mode and do appear as separate entries in the multitasking bar.Via the context menu, a home screen icon can be added that allows for mini apps to be launched fromthe desktop.
The Russian social networking platform VK runs a mini app programthat allows developers to build mini apps that tie in deeply with the social network.VK mini apps work on both VK's platform-specific mobile apps, as well as on the desktop website.Apart from several of the brand's other platforms like Mail.ru, VK mini apps are also integrated in theAtom browser.
This wikiHow teaches you how to sign into your WeChat account when you're using a computer. Signing in to WeChat on a computer allows you to continue chatting with your contacts on a larger screen with a regular keyboard, which can be useful for longer conversations. Whether you're using Windows or macOS, you can either download the desktop app or use WeChat in your web browser. Make sure to have your phone or tablet handy, as you'll need it to verify your login.
With WeChat, you can chat with your contacts via your desktop, and get notifications when someone is contacting you. You can also send files. File transfer is possibly more useful on Windows than on mobile devices (especially if you are an iOS user), as you can send any type of file you like through WeChat.
I interviewed 4 different users and asked them about their experience using Wechat search on their mobile, and their experience of using Wechat's Windows desktop version. Surprisingly, most of the people I spoke to didn't know that Wechat had such an extensive search tool that existed. For those who were aware of the feature's existence, they weren't fully aware of all of its search capabilities, such as initiating a search from an image or a chat window.
As shown below, the mobile experience provides a variety of options to the user when it comes to result types, whereas the desktop experience is limited to having articles only. After comparing the two, I found the desktop version to be too minimal, lacking in fundamental features that would allow other categories to be also displayed.
The current version of Wechat search only has one entry point and is very disconnected from the rest of the Wechat ecosystem. The goal of the redesigned interaction flow is to position Wechat search as users' main way to access the entire Wechat ecosystem, anywhere from an image inside a chat window to Wechat's desktop main page.
At the end of the day, a product is designed for the users, so I had to include some user research in my process to back up my design decisions. Despite only talking to a very small sample of people, I still collected some data from users. Though not representitive at all of the entire user base, it did give me a hint on how Wechat's desktop version and Wechat search was percieved among users.
