I would just like to start off by saying that this is one of the most creative games I have ever seen and that I cannot wait to see it release.

Now I was wondering how far along GAR is, and whether the GAR team wants to hear any feedback about the game.

Hey,

It should go on sale pretty soon. Next day or two hopefully. And yes, we are always interested in feedback to improve the game.

I don't want to be raining on your parade when you are close to release but I have a couple of possible bugs that seem to be in the beta client.

I don't know what is causing this but whenever I open the game it starts up with a black screen, I can hear the splash screens music play and I can hear the main menu's music when it shows up. The only way I have found to get it to display correctly is to take the game out of focus (Alt + Tab) and then back into focus. After that it works fine it is only on start up. If you would like I can e-mail my computer specs to you.

The other thing I found, and it may just be me, on Mission 44: Nebula Wisp Extermination it says that Neuralium Warheads can damage Nebula Wisps on the edge of the map. It may just be me but I cannot seem to do any damage using warheads. Also the mission text says Objectives: Destroy 3 Nebula Wisps but at the bottom it says Objectives Completed: 0 of 5.

This is an awesome game guys!

Hey Justin. Just uploaded a new version that fixes the Nebula Wisp quest. Somehow we got an older version of a file in the build and, as you stated, the Wisps were not being collided with Warheads. The new version should be live on Steam in a few mins. Looking into the splash screen issue. What version of windows are you running?

Windows 7 64-bit

Um I was messing around with my graphics card settings last night to get a different game to work. It would seem that it fixed the splash screen bug. I am trying to find the setting that caused the bug, so that I know what caused it.

Okay it had nothing to do with the graphics card settings. It is caused by clicking play in steam and instead of waiting for it to load, you click off and take the loading window out of focus. So if it enters full screen while the loader isn't in focus you get the bug.

Okay the wisps are now able to be destroyed but when they die their collider remains. If you shoot with the standard gun at the location where a wisp just was, the shot will explode and will give the "Absorbed" text that normally shows when you hit a wisp.

Also the text for Trivial Exp is displayed as "Trivial KillxpNo XP"

I also noticed that in single player defense mode, when you die, the menu says:

Press <Enter> to retry
Press <Esc> to go back to menu

Escape does not work, to go back you have to hit enter and then Escape to quit the current game.

Last thing and it may not be a bug, it just strikes me as odd. Single Player and Multiplayer are saved differently with level, ship, mods and credits but both share the same bank and weapons. It makes sense to have the same bank so that you can transfer weapons back and forth since they really get no advantage from getting weapons from later areas, but when you have the same weapons on both characters you cannot have two different "builds" on the different characters without having to switch weapons when you switch characters. Just checking if it is supposed to be that way or not.

Oh the Trivial Kill text might be caused by the Amount + "xp" still being displayed (over the Trivial Kill text). So (null + "xp") is displayed in the middle of "Trivial Kill   No XP" which made it look like one string.

Hey, nice work on finding the bugs. ;)

- new version should be up on steam in a few mins
- fixed trivial kill text, wisp collision, and the ESC key when dead in Defense Mode
- the weapon sharing between single and multi is intended

Looking into workarounds for the splash screen issue.

Since this is a bit of a general discussions topic, would you guys mind giving a short explanation of what the weapons lab is actually supposed to do, maybe in the FAQ or on the homepage? I'm somewhat lost on this feature.

Hi. The weapon lab lets you directly manipulate the Compositional Pattern Producing Network (or CPPN, a type of Neural Network) that determines your weapon colors and trajectory. What happens when you manipulate is anyone's guess. Almost every CPPN is unique.

So there are no set parameters which say, if i manipulate option 4 by this margin, my projectile will split instead, or circle around me? Cause lately i'm getting a lot of "sperm" patterns i'd like to get rid of :P

Haha. ;)

If you look at the top nodes, you will see VelX VelZ and Red Green Blue. Numbers in those nodes controls Velocity and Color of your projectiles. If you adjust any of the connections that connect to those nodes you might be able to adjust those characteristics. The CPPNs are sort of a black box though, every one is different. So the only way to way to figure out what happens is to experiment. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I have minor gripe with the game for which I will try to explain in detail. First, the camera for the space ship is acts weirdly as in when I fly in a straight line it acts normally and then I try to turn slightly and turn another way, the camera would jump/jutter all over the place. It is quite problematic when fighting other ships because when the camera jumps so does the reticule for the weapons causing severe missed shots. I could probably blame it on how old my pc is but for comparison sake it is an asus laptop with a nvidia 9800m gs.

@rotmg...hmm that doesn't sound normal. The chase camera is on a mass spring system, but it shouldn't be jumping everywhere. The game has fairly low system specs, in fact I test it on a 6 year old Dell laptop with a Gforce 7800 mobile card and it gets 60 fps. What kind of frame rate are you getting? The FPS is on the bottom right of the HUD. If it is really low that might be the problem.

I got around 150 then I restarted my computer and seems to have resolved the issue with little if any camera bumping and averaging around 190 fps.

Oh. Actually the game should be locked to your monitor refresh rate - which is usually 60. If you are above 60 there should be no problems. ;)
