I wrote this up before receiving Andrew’s proposed agreements. Andrew’s intro is probably friendlier but this is a stab at commitment applicable to all and some thoughts on recurring shifts for our discussion at 6. The commitment probably needs the failure to do 12 dives and you are out language.
I think recurring shifts should be a reward for service in years or hours but I am not inclined to think the commitment should vary based on those factors. I think it is both fair and appropriate to require new divers 0-5 years to split their scuba dives no more than 1/2 OV and remainder beluga, sea lion and penguin so that they get to know these exhibits and also so those shifts get coverage but other than recurring shifts I don’t think we should give benefits (ie. No tend requirement) based on seniority not least because we should be careful about favoring ourselves over the divers as a whole.
The other “big picture” issue is whether it is better from the Aquarium’s perspective to have 60-70 divers who do lots of shifts or 100 divers who get their 24 dives and 12 land shifts with everyone picking up extra shifts as they are available. If the later we probably need to limit the total number of shifts anyone can sign up for or say something like once you have completed your 24 dives and 6 tends you cannot sign up for shifts more than 30 days out (with the exception of recurring shifts) so that everyone has a shot at getting their 24 dive shifts.
