Hi friends!!!
Sorry to bother you so late in the evening- wanted to give you all a heads up with the anticipated plan of attack for the mandatory meetings. I have attached a link below to give you access to tomorrow's presentation- feel free to check it out!

Jonathon and I have deliberated a lot as to how we'd like to move forward with the team and have appreciated your proposals made to launch these changes to your dive program. You provided us with the foundation needed to get the ball rolling in smoothing out our operations- as you click through the presentation, I am sure you will find where we have made our changes.

One specific thing I'd like to address is a change in positions for the Agustins. They have been split amongst departments to create more opportunity for others to take on a role such as this and to have more representation within the Leadership Team. We still need to determine who goes to which department, but I will take the time to sit down with the husbandry teams to address that matter at a later time. I am hoping that an opening in both the M&B and OV Leadership Teams will encourage our team members to step up/ support one another/ and be understanding of the changes we are putting in place for the team as a whole. Expressed interest from our Volunteer Divers as well as collaboration with both Husbandry Departments will be major parts of filling these slots. The Agustins were both INCREDIBLY understanding when this change was addressed, and I am really excited to have you all help streamline our chain of command (I need the help).

It has been so so so wonderful to have a few of you helping with training these past few months (either at the pool, with Tender Training, or with Surface Supplied Shadow Training). Thank you so very much for this- it really does help take a lot off of our plate! Throwing a question out there for the sake of curiosity. Would you be interested if we created a shift from 7-10am and 9:30- noon for you to sign up for at your leisure/ convenience to help monitor dives/help out where needed? Jonathon and I were talking about this earlier today and we both feel it would be great to have well versed divers be available to assist where needed when we cannot be available (ie. offsite, in the water, in meeting, or on vacay for 3 weeks in December *cough cough*). Let me know what you think! If there is a general consensus- we can make it happen!

Additional thought- what are your sentiments on the group having a bimonthly meeting? Okay I'm done with thoughts now. Thank you for reading- please go back to your Saturday evenings- see a few of ya tomorrow!

Love,
Felica

Hi Felicia – great job on the presentation yesterday! It was appropriately firm where it needed to be, but with a smile and funny as well. You kept it on time and on point and handled the questions well, too. I also like that you positioned this as a ‘getting back to normal after COVID’. Because the truth is there aren’t massive changes other than just formalizing people spreading the love outside of OV and making SS and Tending part of their routines. Rules are now firm again. This is not an easy audience, but you made it look so easy 😊. Great job!

I didn’t hear much rumbling, just a little bit (but very mild) about limiting recurring shifts. But I had to run and didn’t stay long. VL’s, what did you hear?

I have two questions that have come up since:

  1. Why are other regularly scheduled shifts, like Sea Otter, Penguin and Kelp Forest, not part of the recurring shifts? They’re not as frequent, but they are on a fixed schedule.
  2. Can we share the PPT with people? Someone asked me for it directly, and I said you’d probably share it after the next meeting, which I think is the right approach, and if they have a specific question I’m happy to clarify.

Thanks!

Tom

I didn’t hear much rumbling, just a little bit (but very mild) about limiting recurring shifts. But I had to run and didn’t stay long. VL’s, what did you hear? I am not surprised but, we cant please everyone.

I have two questions that have come up since:

  1. Why are other regularly scheduled shifts, like Sea Otter, Penguin and Kelp Forest, not part of the recurring shifts? They’re not as frequent, but they are on a fixed schedule. Good question. Felicia and Juan? I do think that CW8 keeps getting changed but I am unsure about Sea Otter and Penguin.
  2. Can we share the PPT with people? Someone asked me for it directly, and I said you’d probably share it after the next meeting, which I think is the right approach, and if they have a specific question I’m happy to clarify. Once we do the second meeting, I don’t mind people sharing it but just hold off until then.
