Ina significant move towards fostering transparency and strategic project execution, the YVONNE_ NKAY-led KNUST SRC administration unveiled its plans for the 2023/2024 fiscal year during the budget reading on March 3, 2024. The highlight of the budget announcement was the establishment of a five-member ad hoc committee tasked with drafting a comprehensive policy document.

Beyond the drafting of the policy document, the committee will play a pivotal role in overseeing the proper utilization of funds for costed projects. Their responsibilities extend to ensuring transparency at every stage of the project life cycle and fostering a culture of accountability within the SRC.


A student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Stanley Yanful has petitioned the institution's management to investigate what he perceives to be a "questionable" budget put together by the Students Representative Council (SRC).


The student alleges discrepancies and mismanagement in the utilization of the student fund, claiming that the current student administration led by Yvonne Osei Adobea approved a substantial increase in the annual budget without proper justification and consultation.


A copy of the petition intercepted by JoyNews reads, "how can a budget be acceptable without the signature of the SRC President, and even that of the Financial Secretary? Why should we consider a budget without title and letter head as an official budget? Over forty-two-page document, and there was no amount of money for execution stated in the budget."


Stanley Yanful is also requesting a probe into the over 850,000 Ghana cedis used to purchase a vehicle for the university's Police Service by the previous administration led by former SRC President, Frank Owusu.


As the E-Learning International Conference approaches on July 11th and 12th, 2024, the conference committee has held its first meeting. Chaired by the Planning Committee Chairman for the KNUST E-Learning Awareness Week and E-Learning International Conference, Dr. Kwadwo Boakye Boadu, the meeting brought together experts and stakeholders in the field of education technology.

Chris Addo: Registrar with the E-Learning Centre, bringing administrative acumen and organizational skills to the table. Gibridu Oppong: Secretary of the Planning Committee, tasked with ensuring seamless coordination and communication among members. Godwin Boakye Antwi: Budget Officer and Chairman of the Finance and Sponsorship Committee, entrusted with managing financial resources and securing sponsorships for the event. Lawrence Brobbey: Lecturer in the Department of Silviculture and Forest Management, offering valuable insights into integrating e-learning into diverse academic disciplines. Prince Eli Domenyo: Head of the SRC Academic Board, representing the student body and advocating for student-centric approaches to e-learning.


Abdul Hagg: E-Learning Coordinator with GRASAG, bringing a wealth of experience in implementing e-learning initiatives at the grassroots level. Anita Kumah: Head of Media and Events at the University Relations Office, responsible for publicizing and managing media coverage of the conference.


First Meeting Highlights: The meeting commenced with Dr. Kwadwo Boakye Boadu expressing his gratitude to the committee members for their commitment to advancing e-learning initiatives at KNUST. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in creating a successful conference that would showcase the latest trends and best practices in E-Learning. Professor Eric Appau Asante shared his vision for the conference, highlighting the opportunity to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in e-learning. Chris Addo outlined the logistical requirements for hosting a large-scale international conference, including venue selection, accommodation arrangements, and participant registration.


Godwin Boakye Antwi provided an overview of the conference budget and proposed strategies for securing sponsorship from corporate partners. Lawrence Brobbey and Prince Eli Domenyo emphasized the importance of incorporating student perspectives and disciplinary diversity into the conference program to ensure relevance and inclusivity. Anita Kumah outlined the media and marketing plan to generate buzz and attract attendees across the country, leveraging both traditional and digital media. As the meeting concluded, the committee members say they are committed to making the E-Learning International Conference a success that would shape the future of education in the digital age.


There has been widespread uproar on social media with the leakage of a proposed budget by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).



With the emergence of COVID-19 and the subsequent ban on public gatherings and activities, the SRC budget is nearly shy of GHC100,000.



The outrageous budget has caused a lot of consternation on social media with many accusing the SRC of being the breeding grounds of budget inflation and corruption which is pervasive in our mainstream governance.



With barely no student activities such as SRC week and other the budget stands at GHC 996,250 just a little shy of a billion old Ghana cedis.



The supposed budget is fraught with outlandish items such as SRC website which has GHC10,000 as the cost while off campus security also has GHC 54,000 allotted to it among other outrageous items on the budget.



Angry Ghanaians have poured venom on the KNUST SRC for inflating the budget in order to enrich themselves.


Monthly energy forecasts help heavy consumers of electric power to prepare adequate budget to pay their electricity bills and also draw the attention of management and stakeholders to electric- ity consumption levels so that energy efficiency measures are put in place to reduce cost. In this paper, a wavelet transform and radial basis function neural network based energy forecast model is developed to predict monthly energy consumption. The model was developed using the monthly energy consumption of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana for a 9-year period. A mean absolute percentage error of 7.94% was achieved when the forecast model was tested over a 60-month period.


There is a nine-member Board of Directors which is the highest authority that exercises oversight responsibility for management operations and has responsibility for all fiduciary responsibilities and strategic directions of the organization. The Board of Directors' key purpose is to ensure the organization's success by providing strategic direction.



The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and has supervisory responsibility over the Programmes Manager. The Programmes Manager is responsible for the tactical operations of RESCONI. On financial management, RESCONI has a Finance Manager tasked to manage the financial duties of the project basically involving the management of approved budgets, expenditures and preparation of financial reports and he reports directly to the Executive Director. Management Continued RESCONI in executing its assignment seeks to employ state-of-the-art technology that maximizes efforts and ensures timeliness. Thus, the use of skype meetings, emails, WhatsApp and video conferencing amongst others will be employed whilst using first-class courier services by DHL whenever required. This will be in addition to the face-to-face meetings and contacts necessitated by the nature of this task.



It is worth emphasizing that RESCONI in the past has secured office space or satellite stations in the rural communities/villages to facilitate the speedy and effective management of its operations at the project sites subject to the varied needs and requirements of the project(s) in question.

The third-generation (3G) of gravitational wave observatories, such as the Einstein Telescope (ET) and Cosmic Explorer, aim for an improvement in sensitivity of at least a factor of ten over a wide frequency range compared to the current advanced detectors. In order to inform the design of the 3G detectors and to develop and qualify their subsystems, dedicated test facilities are required. ETpathfinder prototype uses full interferometer configurations and aims to provide a high sensitivity facility in a similar environment as ET. Along with the interferometry at 1550 nm and silicon test masses, ETpathfinder will focus on cryogenic technologies, lasers and optics at 2090 nm and advanced quantum-noise reduction schemes. This paper analyses the underpinning noise contributions and combines them into full noise budgets of the two initially targeted configurations: (1) operating with 1550 nm laser light and at a temperature of 18 K and (2) operating at 2090 nm wavelength and a temperature of 123 K.
