2) Gainesville scholastic players shine at the SuperState scholastic
championship, Mar 3-4 in Miami

In K-1, Nicholas Dang (Oak Hall) only lost his last round game and
finished in 2nd place. Oak Hall dominated the team competition by
leading from start to finish.

In K-3, there was a 4-way tie for first. Three of those four co-
champions are from Gainesville! Alan Wang (Hidden Oak), 1st on
tiebreaks; Owen McCoy (homeschool), 3rd on tiebreaks; Jad Helmy
(Williams), 4th on tiebreaks. In addition, Graham Bernstein (Oak Hall)
earned an 8th place trophy.

In the K-5 section, Jeffrey Lu (Lawton Chiles) tied for 1st and
received 2nd place on tiebreaks. Jeffrey has now tied for 1st at his
last three state scholastic tournaments! Also, Aadil Qamar (Oak Hall)
continued his strong play from the North Florida regional (where he
went 4-0) by finishing tied for 4th.

What do all of these players have in common? Every single one started
in the K-1 section at our fall and spring Grand Prix tournaments!

3) Summer chess camp, July 30-August 3

More information will be available soon. The camp is organized by the
