Food Group,
Forwarded here are some important developments for urban farming in our area, and some examples from Portland, OR.  Thanks to Kathleen and Ed for this info.

Alachua County is trying to make urban gardening and local marketing more feasible with some of these changes, which reflect many years of planning and discussion.

Hello,  Ed Brown sent this link for Portland OR Urban Food Zoning Code Update

http://www.portlandonline.com/bps/index.cfm?c=53834.   Notice the info on ‘food distribution sites.’  In the current draft we don’t have a food membership distribution category but we allow community gardens and the sale of the produce from the garden with a temporary use permit.   See message below about Tues. 2/28 mtg. to discuss  draft update to County land development.  Thank you,  Kathleen Pagan, AICP, Sr. Planner,     352-374-5249

Board of County Commissioners to Continue Discussion of Proposed

Unified Land Development Code Changes on February 28th

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners will continue their review of the Unified Land Development Code by holding a workshop discussion during the evening portion of their regular meeting beginning at 5PM on Tuesday, February 28. The meeting will be held in the Jack Durrance Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building at 12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville.

Many of the changes proposed to the ULDC are to implement the new and revised policies adopted as part of the EAR-based Comprehensive Plan update in April of this year, while others address clarifications and updates needed to the existing code provisions and legislative changes made at the State level.

This fourth workshop will be to review the additional changes made to Chapters 400-410 following comments provided by the County Commission at the first three workshops beginning in August 2011, as well as various comments received from the public since that time. At the direction of the Board, this workshop will be followed by a request to advertise for public hearings to adopt the proposed changes.

The draft changes can be reviewed on our ULDC Update Webpage  along with a highlights document that provides a short summary of many of the changes made and where they can be found. Comments on any of the proposed changes can be submitted by email to plan...@alachuacounty.us, or by contacting the Growth Management Department at (352)374-5249
