Dear Friends and Press Contacts,
Above attachments are posters and a press release heralding the upcoming CIW (Coalition of Immokalee Workers ) Week in Gainesville. Please send out to your list-serves, and help us to garner the publicity we need to educate the Alachua community about farm worker issues.
IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE "MODERN DAY SLAVERY MUSEUM" TRAVELING EXHIBIT, NOW WOULD BE THE TIME. THE CIW FARMWORKERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS.
Thanks for any help you can give us.
Peace, Sheila Payne, Interfaith Alliance for Immigrant Justice
Please excuse cross listings.

PRESS RELEASE:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 27, 2012
Gainesville Interfaith Alliance for Immigrant Justice Hosts CIW Week of Action
Please join Gainesville Interfaith Alliance for Immigrant Justice
(IAIJ) Sept. 11th through Sept. 15th, in Gainesville for The CIW Week of Action (Coalition of Immokalee Workers). IAIJ is composed of local faith communities and scores of individuals who organize around issues of farmworker justice, immigration reform and issues of Fair Food and sustainability.
The CIW is a labor organization which fights for fair wages and working conditions for Florida farm workers. The CIW has successfully signed with 95% of Florida tomato growers to join the Fair Food agreement, which guarantees farmworkers being paid a penny/pound more for the tomatoes they pick. This effectively doubles their wages. The Fair Food Agreement also mandates important changes in working conditions which include a strict code of conduct, a cooperative complaint resolution process, guaranteed water and toilet breaks, and freedom from sexual harassment. This legally binding agreement also assures consumers that they can buy food produced with integrity, which has been harvested by workers treated with dignity.
