I have a wi-fi only iPad 2 running iOS 5.1.1. I have a Dual XGPS150A
that I would like to use with the iPad and GaiaGPS. Gaia does not seem
to be getting data from the Dual. I have turned on airplane mode to
save the battery, and then turned Bluetooth back on. I have verified
that the Dual and the iPad are paired; the Dual status app shows that
the two devices are communicating well. Location services are turned
on and enabled for Gaia. However, when I start a new track, and go
somewhere, no data is added to the track, though the timer runs.
Suggestions?

Hello there,

Thank you very much for your support of Gaia GPS.  I am very sorry that your Dual is not working with our app.  I am not sure why your Dual isn't working, the steps your outlined Airplane Mode>Bluetooth On>Check connection with their app, are the exact ones I recommend when people are having trouble with their Duals.  I tested our Dual with the most recent version of Gaia GPS on several devices and there were no issues.  I'd recommend restarting your iPad and seeing if there is any change, and if not contacting Dual to see if they have any recommendation for what may be causing this problem.  I'm very sorry for any inconvenience you've been experiencing due to this issue.

Hi there,

That should not matter, our app works in the background when the iPad is sleeping and will continue to record your tracks and access GPS.  Have you heard anything from Dual?

Another thought - can the iPad go to sleep? I run two other apps that use the Dual, and one of them works when the iPad goes to sleep, but the other one requires the iPad to remain awake.

I think that the problem is solved. The discussion about "Recording
only when I'm looking at it" mentioned the "No GPS until activated
setting." I turned off that setting, and it appears that Gaia is
communicating with the Dual now. I am not absolutely certain, but I
suspect that the problem is solved.

Hi,

Yes, if you have "No GPS Until Activated" turned "ON" , our app will not find your location or track your movements until you tap the "Locate Me" button (it looks like a cross hairs and is located in the top right corner of the map screen). We plan to change this feature to enable GPS whenever a user starts recording a track as well, to avoid this kind of confusion.

Please let me know if you need any other assistance in the future.

Regards,
Savannah
