Assume that (1) I have an aerial image in the same projection and datum that Google maps uses and (2) I know the corner coordinates.  The area covered by the aerial is about 3 square miles.

Is the complex mapwarper approach the only way to display this aerial in GAIA or is there an easier way?

I tried putting the aerial in a KML file as a <groundoverlay> but that file failed to import.
(I can import KML files with simple point and line tags into GAIA OK)

Compressing the file to a KMZ did not help.
The same KMZ opens on a Garmin GPS and displays the aerial as a custom basemap.

I would like to recommend GAIA for people that need to view georef'd aerials but if mapwarper is the only answer then I will need to look elsewhere.

Hi Joseph,

You can also import georeferenced images by converting them to mapbox tiles via MapBox Studio, or their website.

We are currently working on an article to explain how to do this.
