I am new to Gaia GPS, but I haven't found specific maps for the US
National Forests and Parks. These typically have details that are not
on the USGS topos. Have I missed them somewhere?

Hey Randy,

We do have some USFS maps, but not National Park Maps.

Right now, you add the USFS layer by going to Settings->Help->Add Map Sources.

In the next version, we have added a default source to the app that is a composite of USFS and then USGS where USFS does not exist. That version should come out the week after this one - we're kicking it back and forth in our test group now.

Regards,
Andrew

Andrew,
Looked for the USFS maps. Are they available for California only?

Hi Mike,

Yes, the USFS maps that are currently available to the app only cover California.  However, the combined USGS and USFS map that will be in our next version includes maps of the entire continental United States.  I am sorry for the confusion and appreciate your patience with this map release.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, comments, or concerns about Gaia GPS.

Best regards,
Savannah

Hey guys,

The USFS maps are now nation-wide, even in the live app.

If you go to Settings->Help->Add Map Sources and re-add the source (CalTopo USFS), it will overwrite your existing source with the correct bounds.

Andrew

You might also want to use Maplets app which lets you download all the national parks and forests maps

It's unclear which of the many maps they offer are gps-compatible, and I
searched their maps database and found very little to no coverage for
the national forests which I am interested in (Deschutes, Ochoco, Malheur NFs).

So before paying for the maplets app, check their listings -- they have a good search function.
