Hey folks,

I am just about to post an updated beta version. Since we added this route-making feature, we decided we were unhappy with the Guide to Waypoint and Guide Along Track displays. I have attached a screenshot of what they both look like now. Please let us know if you have any feedback on these.

Guide to Waypoint
  • added an arrow to point to the destination
Guide along Track
  • totally overhauled this panel
  • arrow to next location
  • highlight the remaining route
  • display distance to Next, distance to Track, and remaining distance
This is all really coming together - I think these guide features will be very useful, plus the combination of the route-maker and "Download Maps for Track" feature is something I can hardly believe we ever lived without.

I'll be posting the beta shortly, but I wanted to send these screenshots to make sure we got maximum input. This beta is also pretty solid, and we'll send it along to the App Store pretty quick here too.

Regards,
Andrew

Good idea, that will probably save us a lot of emails from people asking how to delete waypoints too.

I added that function and will ship an updated beta a little later.

I was playing with it a little this morning.  It is getting really good.  I would like to be able to delete a waypoint from the map screen.  I think "Delete Waypoint" should be one of the tool items available from the map screen when you click a waypoint name.  Currently it has Details, Email, GuideMe, Driving Directions.  I think you should be able to delete a waypoint from that screen.

I don't know how much I personally will use the feature, but the
changes look good, especially the little arrow. However give me an
inch...

I would rather see the distance displayed in a very small floating
panel right next to the green line to the next destination, so I don't
have to look down at the bottom of the screen while my eyes are on the
track. Then you wouldn't need the arrow at the bottom. The panel
would change its position on the screen appropriately to be always
next to but not on top of the green line. This might rarely obscure
part of the map, but you could allow the user show or hide the panel
with a tap on the panel, and another tap on the line would bring it
back. Tapping on any green line segment could likewise show the leg
length in a similar panel. All of this is really just a version of
the "mileage between intersections" numbers you see on road maps, but
more interactive.

I realize there are all kinds of complications in such an interface,
so I don't seriously expect to see this -- just noting what I think
would be most useful.

Duly noted :)

FYI, we're currently working on a release that will ensure all maps you have downloaded have all the tiles loaded, and the different ways to sort tracks/waypoints/maps.

The map integrity thing is in response to some people's maps getting deleted in iOS5, but we hope it will also protect against any future mishaps. It will also improve the clunky "Resume Downloads" pop-up, and we're looking at how easily we can continue downloads in the background too.

We also fixed the bug where sometimes you had to shut down the app to get a track to import (we think), and we're trying to knock off other bug reports too. Should have something out to beta before too long.

Other things cooking too... some faster than others.

Regards,
Andrew

The missing map tiles issue is my #1 problem at the moment, so I'm
glad to see its due to be released soon.
