lost all saved maps, tracks, waypoints. Help please!

I love this app! Got it as a free download from amazon, uninstalled
and purchased from Play store so i could get updates (plus the
appstore is slooow). Play store forced me to uninstall previous
AmazonAppStore version, then purchase and download new version. When i
opened new version up for the first time all of my saved maps, tracks
and waypoints are lost! Is there any way to get these back or are they
lost forever? That would really suck because i have wonderful memories
tied to these maps, etc.
If anybody can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Tim,
I'm sorry for the problem. If you deleted Gaia GPS, then reinstalled it, your data would not be preserved.
The only ways I can think you might be able to recover your data are:
- Use a file manager to inspect your SD card - it's possible some of your data was not deleted when you deleted the app
- Do you have any sort of backup of your phone? iTunes automatically backs up phones periodically, but I don't know if some Androids have similar features.
- You might be able to use some sort of file recovery program to restore your SD card - I did that when I had an SD card get erased and I lost some important photos
I'm sorry if that doesn't help.
I am considering pulling the app from Amazon entirely. The amount of trouble that users get caused is great, and the money we make is very slim.

The SD card shows 932.64MB in the app folder with 864MB in the saved maps folder. There is a lot of information there that is not accessible thru the app itself. the file/folder structure has not changed on the SD card. Did the file/folder structure for the app change with the update? Why can't it read/recognize this? Can nothing be done for this?
On a side note: I'm assuming this means that I will lose everything every time I reflash a ROM? that is really not a good thing to hear. No other app I have will do that when I reflash and reinstall. That needs to be fixed in my opinion.

Hey Tim,
When the app is deleted, the database is lost - so we can't recover your waypoints or map tags (the names you gave your map downloads and the date downloaded). The map image data is still there (which you observe), so Gaia will use it in the usual fashion - but your maps won't show up in your saved maps list.
We think that moving the database files to the SD card will be a performance issue, because SD card read/write is slow. I can see why it's problematic when flashing your ROM though.
