I finally got around to exporting a bunch of tracks that have been sitting on my iPhone - and find that when I go to export via email, the email comes up, but mail is frozen.  This is true of several different tracks that I've tried to export, so I don't think a particular file or the inclusion of photos is the issue.  This function has always worked perfectly for me in the past (i.e. IOS 4 &5).

Hey Drew,

Thanks for your note. I got a report like this from someone else too, but I am having trouble reproducing the issue, which is making it hard to debug. I am going to try and sort it out this week, in time for our upcoming release. I will probably send you some questions by private email tomorrow to help me debug.

As a workaround for now, you can export your tracks to EveryTrail, and then download GPX from there.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Slava,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue.  We are not sure what is causing this issue, but it seems to happen to users that have recently updated their operating system.  If you back up all of your tracks and waypoints with Gaia Cloud, you can than delete and reinstall the app.  Then email export should work well.  Again, I'm very sorry for this inconvenience.

Regards,
Savannah

Hey there,

Just wanted to say that after you reinstall, email export should work fine. We still haven't figured out why this happened to some people on upgrade, but it doesn't seem to crop up again.

Andrew

FOr what it is worth, I am having the same problem too.  Will use the workaround for now but it would be nice to be able to send it via email.  Using IOS V6.0.1.

Hello there,

Thank you very much for your support of Gaia GPS.  I am very sorry about this issue. EveryTrail is a website where users can upload and share their GPX tracks.  You will need to set up an account on their website in order to export your tracks and photo waypoints to their site.

We are working on fixing this photo export issue currently so that you can export photos via email easily with the next version of Gaia GPS. It would be very helpful if you could send us a crash report to help us determine what is causing this issue.

To send us a crash report:

1.  Try to export a photo from Gaia GPS again.
2.  When the app locks up press the home button to background the app and the restart it.
3.  Then connect your phone to iTunes and sync your phone.
4.  A crash report will now appear in a folder:

Mac OS X: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/[DEVICE_NAME]

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\[DEVICE_NAME]

Windows Vista or 7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\[DEVICE_NAME]

Here's a visual guide for mac users:

5.  Finally, take those .crash files and email them to us.

Again, I am very sorry about this issue.  Please let me know if you are able to send us crash reports, if not I will make sure to let you know when we have found a fix for this issue.

Regards,
Savannah

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3 Gaia 7.3.3, Macbook, MacOSX 10.8.4

Couple versions ago (i mean version both Gaia and iOS) I've tested the export via email, it worked.
Today it didn't with described symptoms. NO crash file were produced by program/system

FIX: Delete Gaia in iPhone AND iTunes (so that no settings file left). Install back.

Alex

After trying this fix (Delete Gaia in iPhone AND iTunes (so that no settings file left). Install back.) I can "send" the mail but never receive it, and it does not appear in my sent mail.

I am trying to export all my tracks, and there are a lot -- is there no other way to bulk export my tracks?

Hi Brian,

Did you ever get your tracks sent? I suspected some issue with email itself, if you press send, and then nothing happens. We are basically just invoking the stock mail program to send the tracks, and not appearing in your Outbox is odd.

Also, you can export all tracks, by tapping the top right menu button on the Saved Tracks list.

Andrew

No, I am unable to bulk export my tracks. I am using the top right button on the saved tracks list. I can export via email individual tracks.

Tried editing the email, sending only the kml. The email went through, but the kml was empty.

Sending only the gpx, same issue as before, no email sent, no draft saved, no email in sent folder.

I am using gmail, they could be corrupting or not sending the file, odd there is no errors.

I ask because you mention GMail... do you not have the regular Mail app set up?

I think you need that for this to work. It wouldn't work if you only use the GMail app.

If you are just using GMail on the back-end, it doesn't matter though.

Yes, I have the regular mail app set up.

Was finally able to export my tracks, but it only works if I

  • delete the gpx file from the message. If I try to send both files or just the kml
  • make sure the to: field is set -- when sending a single track I can leave it empty since the cc: field is automatically set by the mail app

anyway thanks for your help, and for such a great app

Hi!

Got this problem today when trying to export waypoints from GaiaGPS app on iphone 6. App freezes immediately when choosing export by email. Cannot enter adress, edit message to remove gpx file (as suggested above).

Attempt to export by message does not freeze the app but gives error message when sent ("cannot deliver message").

Hi Erik,

Thanks for reporting this. In trying to recreate this issue, I did notice that I could not enter an address. However, after letting it sit for a moment, the data eventually loaded and I was able to fill out and send my email.

Is this the case for you as well? If not please us an email to sup...@gaiagps.com and we can troubleshoot some more.

Ashli Baldwin
