don't have my Android yet, still using iphone but

I am hoping that since Android is more open that it will be possible for me to find the files for Gaips for waypoints and tracks and then simply  copy them to some other directory and then also "see" them on my laptop if the android is usb connected to my laptop.   Is that true?

I realize that having this ability  also has the potential for messing up things but I would really like that capability especially when I am somewhere like Zion Park and not able to push my data thru the web to my other devices.

If not then I'd like to add this to the "requested features" list.

tks

Yes, you can export tracks & waypoints in several formats (including gpx). On my phone they show up in /mnt/sdcard/GaiaGPS.

Can you import trks and wpts  as well?

In a similar way  can you copy your currently installed maps to another location and then remove from gaigps to make more room?  That would give you the option of putting the maps back later without having to go thru the whole download process.

Hey Don,

Couple of notes:

1) You can import trks and wpts too.

2) I'll note you can also import MBTiles files if you want to keep spare maps on an SD card, though that's not a documented feature, and may be Pro only later.

3) You can also turn on backup/sync, and disable some of the maps via gaiagps.com. You still have to redownload the maps later when re-enabled, but the setup is all done and saved.

Regards,
Andrew

4ow can I get a new install of Gaia GPS to recognize my previously downloaded maps from another phone?
I copied the entire folder and backed up then restored the app on the new phone. My list of downloaded maps appears, but are all great out and give me the option to continue downloading.

Thanks in advance.

where are the MBTiles files?

Perhaps I need a better file manager, I am using ESfile Explorer ES3  I can't seem to find obvious things that a file manager should have , although it could  be just lack of user familiarity.

can I see these MBTiles on my PC if the S3 is mounted?  Would that be a better place to search for them?  Maybe these files are located in root directory that I cannot see unless I root the phone?

I have the same ES Explorer app... I see the mbtiles files in GaiaGPS->SavedMaps. They should show up when mounted too.

You can also generate MBTiles files from other programs.

I have what appear to be the correct mbtiles files and folders structure in my storage/extSdCard/GaiaGPS folder but the cached tile sets are still greyed out.

Can you go to the Map Details page, and press Resume Download? I think this will cause it to rebuild the index and make it know the map is there.

What tool did you use to create the mbtiles to begin with?

They must have been created by GaiaGPS. All I did was copy the folder from the root of ON MicroSD card to the new one, then restore a backup of GaiaGPS to my phone. I even tried unintstalling then reinstalling Gaia.

I was thinking you might have created some unique maps with some kind o map create  tool.  Actually, I'd like to do something similar to what you are doing so that I could have backups of various map areas that I could swap in and out easily so I would not have to download each time  and not  use up so much storage on the phone for areas not of interest at the moment.

Just out of curiousity I am trying to find a mbtiles viewer that I can view these maps on my pc so I can easily determine their coverage area using a large screen pc.  I found one here, http://viswaug.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/mbtilesviewer/ , but I can't make it work, I must be missing some kind of library or plugin.  It launches and creates a screen but when I drop a mbtile on it nothing happens.  I might need to do something with the journal file at the same time to make the whole thing work.  I'm on a pretty steep learning curve on this, lots to learn.

I assume you copied the journal file over as well?  It must be a file that describes how the mbtile map is constructed.
