Hey folks,
Just a quick note to say you can change the map stats on Android as follows: http://gaiagpsandroid.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/293604-how-to-change-the-stats-on-the-map
This has generated a few support requests, and we're going to make this more obvious soon.
We have a big Android release coming out this week or next too.
