Thanks, Justin!

On a different topic, some of you will know that I forwarded a message on
July 19 to some of our returning Geog majors regarding possibly volunteering
to help at the Farm Aid concert on Aug. 13. Since I know at least some of
you who get these gaia-earth-club emails didn't get the details on this
earlier, I'm including the details below. So far, Terri Harmon and Wendy
Stapleton have replied back to say that they would be interested in helping
with this. I have informed Anna (the contact person) that Terri and Wendy
have volunteered (she should be sending you the details soon, if she hasn't
already). I believe she is still accepting volunteers, though, so if any of
you would like to join Terri and Wendy, feel free to contact Anna at
an...@farmaid.org. Whoever does go, would you please try to get a picture
that we could use for promoting our club's activities?

Hope you've all had a wonderful summer! Looking forward to seeing all of you
soon!

Thanks,
David

Subject: Opportunity for Gaia Earth Club at Upcoming Farm Aid Concert

Hi David and Scott-

I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Farm Aid. Farm Aid is a non-profit
organization that was founded in 1985 by Willie Nelson with the mission of
keeping family farmers on their land. Today, Farm Aid continues to promote
local agriculture and assist family farmers in crisis.

Farm Aid holds an annual benefit concert in a different location each year.
We are excited for Farm Aid 2011 to be at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas
City, Kansas on August 13th. The annual concert includes Farm Aid's board
members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews along
with more than 10 additional artists including Jason Mraz and Jamey Johnson.
Each year, we strive to lessen our impact on the environment by using
compostable and recyclable plates, cups and utensils. We enlist the help of
greening volunteers in order to help concertgoers understand where each item
goes: recycling, composting or landfill.

I am reaching out to you today to see if the Gaia Earth Club would like to
participate. I would love to talk in more detail, but here is a brief
overview. I am recruiting groups of 5-50 volunteers to help with our greening
efforts by standing near composting/recycling stations to assist
concertgoers. There will be 30 Greening Team volunteers on each of the
approximately 3.5-hour shifts. All volunteers will receive training before
the gates open to concertgoers and then be free to watch the show & enjoy the
exhibits before and after their shift. Volunteers will receive access to
free, delicious catering all day, a volunteer T-shirt, and free access to the
volunteer section. Farm Aid sources local and family farmed food for catering
and concessions so it is a real treat compared to typical venue food.

Please let me know as soon as possible (by July 22nd) if there is interest
within your group.

I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for your time,

Anna
