Hello fellow Park Geographers!

As some of you know, Darren Epperson is an alumni of our Park Geography program (officially a double-major BS Physical Geography and BA Human Geography, December 2010).  Unfortunately, he was apparently bitten by a mosquito infected with the West Nile Virus in 2010 and has been fighting its multiple effects ever since.  Darren is an exceptional student and planned to go on the graduate school after finishing here at Park, but those plans have been put on hold for now.  Those of you who know him know that he is also a wonderful guy…very down to earth and fun to be around.  His wife, Johnna, has been tremendously supporting him throughout this ordeal.  If possible, I would greatly appreciate if you could manage to attend this fundraiser for him or find some other way to help support him.

Thank you,

David

Subject: AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP

Benefit for Darren Epperson, still struggling with recovery from West Nile Virus and Encephalitis.  SEE ATTACHED FLYER

VENDOR SALE AND CHILI SUPPER

A recent co-worker of mine at Stratford Commons has organized a fundraiser/benefit to help cover out-of-pocket medical expenses for Darren.  We are still paying a past bill with Dr. Wayne Hemphill’s office in Olathe, KS where he receives cognitive/eye therapy treatments.  Each visit is $110 – our cost not covered by insurance.  Once he is capable of handling that added physical stress and stimulation, he needs to start those treatments again and also wants to pursue more hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments $125/treatment. Adjusting from dual-income to single-income is a challenge in and of itself, let alone the added financial burden of Darren’s medical care, so please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we learn how to juggle (minus the clown get-up).  If you’d like to help and contribute towards his medical treatments, come to the Vendor Sale and Chili Supper, September 17th.  Vendors will be open 2pm-5pm and Chili Supper from 5pm – 6:30pm.  See attached flyer for more information and please contact Johnna Lowther  816/797.9893 or Jan Hagan 913/957.4519 if you’re interested in helping at the supper.
