Workshop Description: The goal of this workshop is to help attendees better understand green building concepts and learn how they can incorporate them in their design and construction, while working within the models of Habitat for Humanity and other affordable housing providers.
Topics presented will include:
§ Connecting green building and affordable housing
§ Working as a team and assessing goals
§ Designing and specifying for actual conditions
§ Constructing houses that work as intended
§ Educating the players for success
§ Doing it for real--case study
Presenters: Mary McLeod, Rich MacMath, and Russ Shaver
Mary McLeod is the Residential Coordinator for Austin Energy’s Green Building Program, where she has overseen the rating of over 4500 homes since 1990. From the mid-1970s, Mary operated a design/build company, specializing in site-specific and locally appropriate design and construction. Ms. McLeod holds a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Rich MacMath is a registered architect and Residential Program Specialist with the Austin Energy Green Building Program (GBP). He started his architecture career in 1974 as a co-founder of Sunstructures Architects in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to the GBP, Rich worked at the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems (CMPBS) in Austin for 10 years where he was the Architect of Record. Mr. MacNath holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas.
Russell Shaver has been a staff member of the Austin Energy Green Building Program since 1999, where he consults with commercial, residential, and multi-family building professionals to expand green building in the Austin area. His work includes technical research, project design, building professional education, and building performance evaluation.
