Title 24 and You: How Changes to the Energy Standards Will Affect Affordable Housing

Please join Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the Green Affordable Housing Coalition, and Nonprofit Housing Association for a Green Building brownbag workshop on the changing energy standards, which take effect October 1, 2005. The new Energy Standards will be much more stringent than the current Energy Standards, so this workshop will concentrate on information you need to know to manage your projects to comply with the new requirements and remain competitive for tax credits.

Date: July 21, 2005, 3:30-5:00 pm

Location: LISC Conference Room, 369 Pine Street, Suite 350, San Francisco, CA

Please RSVP to Julie O'Loughlin, (415) 397-7322 ext. 11, or jolou...@lisc.org

Guest speakers:

Mike Gabel (Principal, Gabel Associates) will discuss important changes to the Residential Title 24 Energy Standards for multifamily projects, with particular attention to window glazing and water heating elements. Using model results for a prototypical multifamily project, Mike will explore which design strategies will generally contribute to compliance most cost effectively.

Mike Gabel is the former state chair of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants. Gabel Associates has provided energy consulting assistance on more than 8,000 building projects including low-rise residential buildings, high-rise apartments, office buildings, retail buildings, restaurants, schools and college buildings, recreational facilities, industrial facilities, warehouses and other special occupancy buildings.

Elie Rothschild (Vice-President and co-founder, Sustainable Spaces) will discuss how on-site inspection and verification can help you achieve Title 24 compliance and improve the overall quality of your multifamily project.

Sustainable Spaces provides performance contracting services to help clients apply a holistic approach to residential project performance. Through on-site inspection and performance testing, Sustainable Spaces identifies and provides what each project needs most for better energy efficiency, economy, air quality, structural soundness, long-term value, and the health, safety, and comfort of its occupants.

NOTE: This workshop can be combined with LISC’s two-day workshop “Managing the Construction Process.” This two day training will provide tools to effectively manage the construction process from the developer’s perspective including becoming familiar with the AIA owner-contractor agreements, bidding, monitoring construction progress, establishing payment procedures, handling revision documents, closing out a construction project and incorporating green building principles. For details, see the attached workshop announcement and registration form.
