Whatever your style or budget, you can enjoy the benefits of a green home. Learn about the green building process that offers a framework for making better design and building decisions. Learn how to assess what your family needs in a home; choose a designer and builder; select a lot or make the most of the one you have; increase comfort, health, and durability; and reduce utility bills. The workshop will also help you make smart material and appliance choices; develop a beautiful landscape that saves water, time, and money; maintain and operate your home’s structure and systems; and create a home that benefits your family and the planet. Mary McLeod is the Residential Coordinator for Austin Energy’s Green Building Program, where she has overseen the rating of over 4500 homes since 1990. From the mid-1970s, Mary operated a design/build company, specializing in site-specific and locally appropriate design and construction. Ms. McLeod holds a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Russell Shaver has been a staff member of the Austin Energy Green Building Program since 1999, where he consults with commercial, residential, and multi-family building professionals to expand green building in the Austin area. His work includes technical research, project design, building professional education, and building performance evaluation.
