Hello,

I found a bug with the arnold interactive renderer.
If I create a quad light and tweak the color during an interactive rendering everything is working but if I lower the soft edge value of the quad light, it is not possible to tweak the color light anymore during the interactive rendering. If I stop the ipr and launch it again the color appear to be correct. If I set back the soft edge value to 1, the bug is gone.

I said something stupid, it's when I leave the soft edge at 0 that I no longer have the bug. sorry

Hmm, haven't tried this yet, should be easy to reproduce - but my first question anyway: do you get any warnings in the console Gaffer was launched from when this happens?

I don't see anything special.
I also have an other bug, when I add a light group aov, the IPR can't show the beauty anymore.
Actually I can only see the light groups aovs, all the other aovs are not present anymore in the catalog aov dropdown menu

I have seen some strange/unexpected behaviour when adding light group aov's.
The beauty sometimes ends up as a different item in the Catalogue.

Hi Seb!

I am experiencing the same behaviour in maya with the soft edge not being 0 blocking the color updates, so I think this is an mtoa issue rather than gaffer. I didn't test it in the new mtoa 5.x though, I hope this bug is fixed now.

Thanks for the info László,
If MtoA and Gaffer are displaying the same problem, I think that indicates that it's a core Arnold bug. This would make sense, because there's nothing different about the way Gaffer handles soft edge vs any other parameter of the quad light...
Cheers...

Thx for the feedback, I will send a mail to solidangle support !

I also so have additional information concerning the problem with the lightgroups. Actually, the catalog create 2 images when I add the lightgroup aovs. One catalog image with the beauty + the default aovs and one catalog image with only the lightgroups. both images are rendering at the same time !
Is it possible to group all the aovs in one catalog image ?

Cheers,

Seb

The Catalogue uses some heuristics to determine when several AOVs belong to the same render. One of those heuristics is that if it sees the same AOV twice, it assumes they wouldn't be coming from the same render, so it starts a new image for the duplicate. This is the only way I've seen this "two images from one render" problem occur, so I wonder if it could be the case here? If not, could you post a minimal Gaffer script that shows the problem?

Hello John,

Thx, for the answer.
The beauty and the lightgroup use the same data in the aov settings, So I guess it is what you mean by having the aovs twice
You can find 2 print screens on this links https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7rq11k0un4ngt6f/AAAvL__yzqfQX4ki-G_WVfxpa?dl=0 with the settings I use for the beauty and lightgroups AOVS.
Is there a workaround to fix this ?

Thx,

Seb

Hi Seb,
Those screenshots show batch outputs, but it would be the interactive outputs that would be relevant when rendering to the Catalogue. I've attached an example which shows light groups working, producing just one image per render. Hopefully that gives you something to go on. If you still can't get it working, if you could provide a minimal repro I'll be able to take a look...
Cheers...
