Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has started a Renderman implementation? I know 3Delight used to be supported at least, but I haven't seen anything regarding Renderman. I'm not a coder more of a scripter so I have no idea on where to even start doing a implementation like this.

best regards
stefan

Hi Stefan,

I'm not aware of anyone having started a RenderMan (by which I assume you mean PRMan) implementation. We still support 3Delight out of the box, but this is now via their shiny new NSI API, which supports threading and interactive edits much better than the RenderMan API did. A PRMan implementation would have to start pretty much from scratch now I think...

Cheers...
John

Hello
Having renderman in Gaffer, combined with the USD could be great !

I was in talk with renderman' seller that explain me the new API is more accessible than before
not sure if it help or not as my knowledge on programming are very low but, yes, would love to see renderman in gaffer

regards

Hi William,
I have been experimenting with RenderMan support via the new API in RenderMan 22. No promises as to when I might be able to release something - it's purely a spare time effort at this point...
Cheers...

I've put my prototype on hold for now, partly due to lack of time, and partly due to the new RenderMan API still not being publicly available...

Hello,
Checking in again on this old thread :) https://rmanwiki.pixar.com/display/REN22/RenderMan+API

I really wish I was able to code, but I'm not... so I'll just keep my fingers crossed that someone might be able to pick it up.

regards
stefan

It's probably time to confess : a while back I rewrote my prototype to use the Riley API, and actually got it to a fairly functional state. My branch is here :

I believe there are some minor API changes in RenderMan 23 that will need to be addressed, but nothing major. I'm not sure when I'll find time to work on this further though, so if anyone would like to push it forwards themselves, please get in touch...

Cheers...
John

Just to awaken an old thread :) I know you are busy with other things but wondering if anyone has tested or done anything with this branch?

happy friday!
