Now that the politicians are too scared to oppose you, it's time to go after Morello's brother Sergio. Sadly for you, this guy is one lucky bastard and it'll take a few tries to get him. Paulie has the first plan to take him out in front of the Italian Garden restaurant. His plan is for Tommy to call the restaurant from the phone booth across the street asking for Sergio.

Lucky bastards spend kismet points to accomplish deeds. Most deeds grant the lucky bastard a momentary bonus or effect, but some provide longer-lasting effects. Some deeds remain in effect while the lucky bastard has at least 1 kismet point, but do not require expending kismet to be maintained.

A lucky bastard can only perform deeds of his class level or lower. Unless otherwise noted, a deed can be performed multiple successive times, as long as the lucky bastard has or spends the required number of kismet points to perform the deed.

At 4th level, the lucky bastard may, as a standard action, spend a kismet point to make a single attack with a weapon he has selected with finesse training. The target loses its Dexterity bonus against this attack and the attack deals 1d4 extra damage per two unchained rogue levels, but if it misses the lucky bastard drops the weapon he used to make the attack. If the lucky bastard could not drop the weapon (such as if he made it with a natural weapon), he is instead staggered for one round.

At 12th level, the lucky bastard may spend a kismet point and take a full-round action to move up to twice his speed, making one attack against each enemy he moves past with a weapon he has selected with finesse training. Any ability or effect that would specifically allow his to prevent attacks of opportunity (such as the turnabout deed) is suppressed during this movement, but he may use Acrobatics and the deceptive tumbling deed as normal. If he is struck by an attack of opportunity during his movement, he immediately stops and until the start of his next turn is flat-footed against attacks made by the enemy who successfully attacked his and any he attacked during this movement (regardless of whether his attacks hit).

At 18th level, the lucky bastard may spend a kismet point as a standard action to apply the turnabout deed to all attacks made against his before the beginning of his next turn. He also gains a bonus on Acrobatics checks equal to twice the current size of his kismet pool; if the size of his kismet pool decreases, so does this bonus.

Dicey Thrust (Ex): At 4th level, the lucky bastard may, as a standard action, spend a kismet point to make a single attack with a weapon she has selected with finesse training. The target loses its Dexterity bonus against this attack and the attack deals 1d4 extra damage per two unchained rogue levels, but if it misses the lucky bastard drops the weapon she used to make the attack. Acrobatic Assault (Ex): At 12th level, the lucky bastard may spend a kismet point and take a full-round action to move up to twice her speed, making one attack against each enemy she moves past with a weapon she has selected with finesse training. Any ability or effect that would specifically allow her to prevent attacks of opportunity (such as the turnabout deed) is suppressed during this movement, but she may use Acrobatics and the deceptive tumbling deed as normal. Felicitous Footwork (Ex): At 18th level, the lucky bastard may spend a kismet point as a standard action to apply the turnabout deed to all attacks made against her before the beginning of her next turn. She also gains a bonus on Acrobatics checks equal to twice the current size of her kismet pool; if the size of her kismet pool decreases, so does this bonus.

Anyone can be lucky, but not everyone can be a Lucky Bastard. It takes some skill, a lot of luck, and a quite a bit of physical prowess. Lucky Bastards are a jack-of-all-trades of sorts, they are strong, healthy, hearty, and even skillful. While strong and skillful, a Lucky Bastard is not always as lucky as his name makes him sound and therefor often makes friends with Bards and Clerics.

These lucky rogues tend to worship Gods of chance and luck, but are not devoted to any one god in particular. Some Lucky Bastards worship the Deity of their youth regardless if it is a God of luck or not. Like any fighter or ranger, a Lucky Bastard may pray for his fortune or just head off to the local tavern to toss the dice. Few Lucky Bastards have a real profession, they tend to live life on the edge.

At 3rd level, you gain number of lucky points equal to your half your rogue level (rounded up). Whenever you or a creature within 60 feet must make an ability check, attack roll or saving throw, you can use your reaction and spend 1 lucky point to force that creature to reroll the d20, after the result of the roll is known, but before the outcome is determined. You can re-roll a die that have already been re-rolled while using this feature.

Clearly, McCarry intends for this last aspect of Jack's character
to be Kennedy-esque. But this scenario also applies to a more contemporary
political figure who also seems to suffer from a "zipper problem"; someone
who has himself been described both in his politics and his many reported
excesses as the bastard child of JFK. McCarry's shrewdness and skill are
evident in the way he has orchestrated these character traits so that they
have a sort of double resonance, echoing off the Kennedy legend
while also functioning as a rousing absurdist riff on Clintonian politics.

The internet has always had dark alleys and toxic corners, but of late that toxicity seems to have spread to anywhere a few users are gathered. Thankfully, there's Lucky Generals. For the last six months, Andy Nairn, co-founder of the London-based creative agency, has been trawling for angry tweets that mention "bastard."

"Whether or not it's a deliberate way to evade the social media platforms' own policing efforts or just testimony to the sly nuances of the English language, we all know what is often meant when somebody refers to a 'hook-nosed bastard,' 'barbaric bastard,' 'lazy bastard' or 'perverted bastard,'" Lucky Generals founding partner Andy Nairn tells Muse. "Of course, some tweeters are much more direct and we pick them up. But we felt it was important to tackle these more subtle forms too."

In a speech of his own later that day, Molyneux told the audience, "You're lucky bastards, because the web is a fantastic place to get your ideas out there. If XNA really is going to be the YouTube of game design then that will be a brilliant, brilliant thing."
