Cincinnati Off Road Alliance Thank You Header

Hello CORA Universe,

A quick and happy update. Governor Mike DeWine used his line-item veto to strike the cut that would have stripped ORCA's funding. The money stands, and the Baileys Trail System and the larger Appalachian trail vision keep moving forward.

The explanation from Governor DeWine:

"This item would terminate previously appropriated funding to the Outdoor Recreation Council of Appalachia.  This funding termination would disrupt economic development related to the Baileys Trail System that is already in progress. In my time as Governor, I have worked to foster the economic development of Ohio’s outdoor recreation sector, and this item would unnecessarily harm this development in the Appalachian region of Ohio. Therefore, the veto of this item is in the public interest."

Here's the part worth sitting with. A line-item veto is a rare thing, and this one landed because people spoke up.

And this win wasn't ours alone. It came from the structure we're building together across the state. The member organizations of the Ohio Trails Partnership and the Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance all leaned in, and that's the proof: we're stronger together than any of us are on our own. A statewide network of trail people pulling the same direction is hard to ignore.

If you want the full story, the Athens County Independent covered it here:

Moments like this are exactly why we do the work, building a prosperous and fun community. Thank you for being part of it.

See you on the trail,

Jason
