Today at my condo community here in Landen, my neighbors had a friendly race consisting of an XC Bike and an XC Skier.  The race was conducted on our plowed but unsalted streets on approx 2" of hard-packed snow.

On the bike was Kurt Lentz who is the fastest Landen XCP rider. Tires: Kenda Kevegal 26 x 2.125." On the skis was Jesus Fernandez who has beaten XC and Fat Bikes on several occasions on the XC Ski course at Landen Deerfield Park.

Kurt got the hole shot but was soon passed by Jesus (pronounced heh-SOOS) who was digging deep with his well-honed skating technique.  By the end of lap 2, Diego was far enough ahead to make Kurt concede and drop out.

The advantage of XC Skis over XC Bikes was demonstrated 17 years ago during the Snowmageddon XC race at Landen Deerfield Park.  At that event G4B's DA (I don't know his full name) made quick work out of the XC bikes.  That event was well advertised and had a stacked field of local XC Riders.

With approx 10" of snow on the ground it will prolly take all of February before enough snow has melted to resume the XCP rides at Landen.  Current forecast is calling for 65 degrees on the 12th of February so I will be looking for a DRB posting around that time.

Retro out.

Wow, those who choose the 10 lap (16.77 miles) option with a forecast high of only 13 degrees will have frozen hands and feet for sure!  Hell, today Kurt's hands were froze by the end of lap 2.

Also with 10" of snow on the ground at the Lebanon Bike Park you can forget about shifting.  Single speed will be the way to go.

Retro out.
