I have not been seeing the spam to the groups since Google actually filters spam sent to email accounts properly.

However, we have already made posting available for members-only. This doesn't seem to stop the spam as the accounts must have joined, sent email and quit before I see the post and report them.

For now, I've marked all new member posts as moderated. I did this instead of requiring member invitations.
