Subject: Issues regarding supervision and Dr Fisher

Greetings Dr Fisher,

I hope this email finds you well though I am full of frustration while typing.  I have been emailing you and leaving voice mails for you since April (4/9/14, 5/28/14, 7/21/14) regarding Internship supervision (I am conducting my internship in Sacramento).  As a student I have done everything that I was supposed to do including doing well in my classes, passing my comp exam, turning in all credential forms, making myself extremely marketable and securing the highest paid internship out of my cohort.  It is extremely frustrating that as my adviser and program supervisor you are always incredibly difficult to get in touch with.  Rather it is difficult for some people to get in touch with you.  My internship supervisor Miranda Kucera emailed you last week 8/19/14 at 2:43pm and received a reply at 2:59 pm which is less than 20 minuets! This is my education and my career that we are dealing with.  I have always played a pro-active role and I will continue to do so.  I would like you to correspond with me regarding my internship supervision.  I would like to know how I am supposed to be supervised from afar and who my university contact will be.

As the head of the program I feel you have sincerely dropped the ball.  You have bitten off more than you can chew and you are not functioning as a competent part of the system.  You were hardly ever present.  You provided little to no advice when asked for help (which I can document via email and other students testimonies). In all actuality you function as if this position is only a paycheck for you and your students are of little consequence.  How in all the years of having this program have you not established working relationships with school districts so that it is easy for your students to be placed for practicum? Why in the the time that you have been department head has this program not been restructured to better prepare students for interviews and internship? Why are we not NASP certified? Why as my adviser have I only seen you perhaps 4 times after the intro class that you taught?  Why as my adviser have you never reached out to me other than to get me to enroll in more classes or the PsyD program? You didn't even bother to show up to our graduation nor offer an apology for not supporting the students that have helped keep your program alive.

Attitude reflects leadership Dr Fisher.  You truly need to reevaluate whether or not you are the best person for the position.  I believe you are not.  You should step aside and let someone who actually cares come into the position and make the changes you seem unwilling to make.

All that aside you are currently still head of this program and my adviser so I look forward to hearing from you regarding my internship supervision.  I can be reached at this email or 619-665-1459.  Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
La Wanda Johnson

Thank you La Wanda,

This is very necessary, it's just a shame Fisher doesn't take this program all that serious, but our cohort has made the best of it and idk how but we all managed to have placements.

Have a great year team and learn lots.

Thank you LaWanda,

I think you nailed it. It was hard for me to reach him after I took my leave. I have emailed him 3 times since then to ask about possibly counting hours I am doing now and I have not heard from him.
It is really a shame that we have all pretty much just left to figure things out on our own.
I believe that this somehow has done good, because you have all been forced to do research and prepare yourselves for the future. But it is a shame that there was no structure or guidance whatsoever.

Please let us know if you get a response from him or anyone else on that email.

Miss you all!!! :(

He was very diplomatic with his response lol! But I'm happy I got some results

Good Morning LaWanda. Thank you for sharing your frustration, concerns, and feedback. I apologize that I have not been more accessible and responsive to your communications. With respect to university supervision of your Internship, your supervisor will be Dr. Ray Easler. As the semester starts next week, he will contact you and Ms. Kucera , your site supervisor, in order to set a schedule for virtual meetings with you and Ms. Kucera, as well as you individually for direct university supervision.

Dr. Rhonda Brinkley-Kennedy, Dean of the Hufstedler School of Education, is aware of your concerns and is available should you wish to further discuss and process the issues you've delineated below. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You indeed have worked hard demonstrating academic excellence while pursuing your selected Practicum and Internship training experiences. I am confident the program's training will serve you well in your career pursuits. I am also confident you will continue to distinguish yourself throughout your continued training experiences.

Sincerely

I can be reached at this email or 619-665-1459<tel:619-665-1459>. Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
La Wanda Johnson

Go La Wanda!! He is very frustrating. I emailed him about having to leave in the middle of my internship due to my pregnancy and how I should go about completing my hours if I do not complete them this year and have not received any response. In other news, I am interning at two elementary schools right now and loving them both. Still curious as to when this internship class is supposed to begin or when we will be getting this information emailed to us seeing as it is supposed to start next Tuesday. Ridiculous. But miss you all!
