Twenty years ago....I did 5 and 10 K's all over my home state. Fast
forward to today and I find myself 44 years old and overweight and
heading down that "slippery slope" where no one wants to go....but
alot do! I see it in my patients all the time! I am getting back
into running...I actually went into Lukes Locker and bought my running
shoes and will hit the Trinity Trail tomorrow to start my C25K
program! Can't seem to find anyone that is doing a C25K group/
individual training. I have a crazy work schedule and just wondering
if anyone knows of any personal trainers to help whip off the pounds
and bring on the health and vitality that running offers! In addition
to strength training etc. Trying to network as much as I can and
still too shy/embarrassed to join the FWRC because I probably would
log in a 30 minute mile or something along those lines. Soon
though.... I will be there..... one step in front another! Thanks!

You can do it Kathy. My child is now almost 1 1/2 years old and I'm
just now getting back to running. Feel free to contact me if you need
any support.

If you are interested in a personal trainer, my partner works at Texas
Health Fitness Center on the Plaza level of Texas Health Harris
Methodist Hospital. I like working out there, because it doesn't
matter what you wear or what you look like. It's also more reserved
in what people wear and people are a little older. They validate
parking and are pretty affordable even for community members.

Blessings,

Melissa

A wise person once told me,  you are farther ahead than the people who decided to stay home on the couch.  So be it a 30 minute mile is still alot faster than those who choose not to start.  The Fort Worth Runners Club is an amazing group of people.  You would so suprised at the diverse group of people.  You have everyone from you 5 to 6 minute milers to those who walk and everyone cheers everyone on whether a beginner or more advanced.   Basically it is really a race against yourself if you look at it that way.  You are just going out to do the best that YOU can do and work to improve upon that.  Best of luck to you.

Lisa! Your words are inspiring as I just got out of the tub from soaking and now taking Advil! Lol!  Tonight was W1D2 but at least I was off the couch!  That is what is counting right now and will continue to count!  I know this is as bad as it gets because I will just get stronger!  Bring on W1D3!!! see you soon at the club!  Thanks again for those awesome words! Onwards! Kathy

Onwards  & Upwards!

Agreed, the staff at facilities at the hospital are very good.  It feels like a personal gym and other members are very friendly.  Hours are a little quirky close by 8 weekdays and 6 on weekends, but they open at 6 am. Very positive experience there.

Kathy,

Let me tell you a little story I am pretty proud of.  On July 31, 2001 I quit smoking and joined Weight Watchers.  I lost 40 lbs through WW and exercising.  I had a friend that suckered me into doing a 5K.  I told her I didn't think I could run that far.  I use to have a bad problem with blood clots and my legs throbbing.  My friend was pretty encouraging and said she would walk with me if neccessary.  Well, we walk ran it and did 38 minutes.  A few months later, she talked me into joining a training group for a marathon that started at 6 AM.  I told her she was crazy, but I changed my mind and joined.  In Dec 2002, I ran the White Rock Marathon and I ran it again in 2003.  I ran a few halfs in between.  In 2004, I went through a divorce and got pregnant while couching a half marathon group and had to quit.  I started back to Weight Watchers and running after the baby.  In 2006, I was diagnosed with MS  (Multiple Sclerosis).  Most people don't know unless I tell them.  Anyways I choose to take the diagnosis with a positive attitude since there was nothing I could do to change it.  The neurologists really advised me not to exercise in the heat, but I know the stress is worse for me than the heat so I still run.  I have ran 2 half marathons (2007 & 2009)  since the diagnosis and I more proud of them than the marathons.  I prefer the 5K, since I am pretty busy with going to school online and chasing a 4  1/2 year old around.

Anyways, I thought I would share my triumph in hopes it will help you with yours.

You Go Girl!!!

Best Wishes

Lisa

P.S. I recently celebrated 8 years of not smoking and haven't killed anyone yet, LOL!!
