Thank you again. EON is delighted to accept the unspent funds of $250
I have been speaking with Graham Harper who represents EON Indochina about how this money can be put to meaningful use in the Mekong with a tangible outcome that can be seen and shared by FLNW particpants - rather than becoming invisible in larger project work. We have decided that the money will be used by EON to sponsor a Big Brother Mouse book party for the children in the remote village communities near the Mekong river in Laos that Graham is involved in project work.
These communities have no electricity, cell phone coverage or other IT communications. Their needs are basic. One of the first steps is reading literacy in the local language - however there are no reading books, indeed very few text books exist at all in Lao. A Big Brother Mouse Book party will involve the donation of sets of Lao children's reading books into the local school (about 200 books), with each child being given a book to read and return. A party will be held when the books are delivered to the school and a day spent reading and enjoying with teachers and volunteers. Most of the books are just in Lao language, some in Lao and English. You can read an article about Big Brother Mouse here: http://www.north-by-north-east.com/articles/08_07_2.asp
Graham is suggesting that the party be held in the second week of March. He will record the event and share in image and text with FLNW. He will set up a PayPal account to receive the funds.
Cheers,
John
