Hi everyone
It has been some time since I last posted any discussion.  I hope you all made it through the festive season and had some time to spend with family and friends.  I wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2010.

I have just uploaded a new information sheet into the files on the FutureDairy Google group website (http://groups.google.com.au/group/futuredairy).  It is an info sheet on Innovations and precedes a presentation that I will be making at the ADC conference in Wollongong in February.  Also of interest at this conference will be the results of a study tour that we have organised.  Bevan Ravenhill is a dairy farmer from Western Australia and is about to embark on the study tour of 6 AMS farms to capture some learning's from the planning, installation and commissioning of their new AMS farms.

Hearing the findings of this study tour will be extremely interesting for anyone considering AMS.  Developing an understanding of the areas detailed below will help us to understand the realities of commercial AMS farming in Australia.
1: reasons for adopting the technology
2: where farmers have found the greatest challenges,
2: what aspects of the operation were unexpected,
3: their findings with regard to early impacts on labour and lifestyle,
4: impressions with regard to detecting and dealing with oestrus and mastitis,
5: proportion of cows that have not been suited to the new system,
6: technical performance of the system,
7: adequacy of support when needed,
8: speed of adaptation by people and cows.

In addition to organising the study tour I have also had the privilege of being part of the programming committee for the 2010 Australian Dairy Conference which comes to Wollongong Feb 23-26.

The program is a very diverse and challenging series of speakers, including six internationals (a record for this event) – so we can guarantee you that we bring you people who would otherwise be unavailable to the Australian Dairy industry.

The full program and registration form is available at www.australiandairyconference.com.au.  This event will bring together dairy farmers from all over Australia and New Zealand – and it is one not to be missed.

The location is stunning – so it’s also a great chance to combine business with pleasure – a few days by the sea, whilst also working on the business side of your business – as you collect ideas and information that will take this great industry into the next decade.

Don’t hesitate to call and discuss this year’s conference with me – or to contact our conference organisers – EPP – for further detail, on est...@estherprice.com.au

Kind Regards
