I wanted to address the topic of Membership in the Amherst Club. I realize that
we have had this discussion before.
However, I feel that our present membership system is like the
sorority/fraternity system where we 'VOTE' on the prospective member -- both on
the membership committee and then a vote by the Board.
This past year, one of our present members proposed a name for membership in the
Club. Unfortunately, because the application was being revised and I don't know
how many other reasons for the long, long, long delay......but the member who
proposed the prospective member had NO IDEA what was happening. He kept on
paying for lunch for this prospective member (this was before our policy of a
member being allowed to bring one prospective member for lunch at no charge)
My question is,
"How would any of us feel if we applied for membership in an organization and
did not hear anything for a long, long time?"
How would we feel about that organization? Would you feel that you were not
wanted?
I would be very interested in hearing your ideas about membership in Amherst
Club. I would like to see us set up a booth at Love Notes to RECRUIT NEW
MEMBERS.
