What does this mean for HamiPiks?

I don't think I'm the heaviest HamiPiks user, but I might be the
second heaviest! I've come to rely on HamiPiks heavily for all my
graphic storing needs. Will it still be around? Will any editing/
improving/changing be happening there? Will it ever be possible to
upload multiple pictures? Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

Initially it won't mean anything for Hamipiks, but ultimately, as the
WordPress software allows embedding of images directly using it's own
Media Manager (including uploading multiples I think?) the need for
Hamipiks will diminish and you'll probably find you no longer even
want to use it.

But I'll cross that bridge later - if people do decide they want it
still, then I'll rename it at some point :-)

Which reminds me, I need to go through and blat any accounts that are
no longer Plus accounts - there's Gigabytes of storage in use from
Hamipiks that haven't been paid for years!

I use HamiPiks for nearly all my online photo storage. I started
doing so when sites began to restrict hot-linking about eight years
ago. It made sense at that time to just use Hamipiks since I was
already using it for my diary storage. Pictures I post on non-DD
related message boards go there, as do pictures I want to share with
other people. I have avatars stored there, and photos for reference
stored there as well. At this point I've got a fair amount of code
that points back to HamiPiks that will go dead if the storage
leaves.

I too have a lotta photos on Hamipiks, though they only link to my
diary.
I'm sort of embarrassed by how many I have in there... sorry Steve!

I happen to like the way it works and the ease of use, so if there was
a vote, would vote to keep them
functioning in new DD.

I'm probably up there with you in the top 5, and for pretty much the
same reasons. Everyone keeps telling me to move to Flikr, but the
thought of transferring all those photos I've got stored on Hamipiks,
not to mention finding and updating all the links to them, has put me
off. Plus I trust Hamipiks a lot more than I do the faceless crowd at
Flikr!

So my vote is to keep it going, if at all possible. (And if it turns
out to be not possible, I don't suppose there's any way we could get a
quick and easy way of downloading our entire albums before they
disappear! Steve, I'd happily pay you to dump the photos onto a CD or
something and mail it to me)

Which reminds me - my Plus account status on my diary is still showing
that it runs out in October 2010, when I know I've paid for another
year since then. I haven't worried about it too much because I can
still access all my stuff, but if you're going to start blatting
things, can you please make sure my Plusness is correctly accounted
for first!

I didn't realise people used it for all sorts of other things too, and
that's perfectly fine and indeed the way it was originally intended -
and since the WordPress media library won't do that for you I won't
remove Hamipiks. It will be rebranded at some point and may even get
some updates in that case :-)

I found 7Gigs of duff data in it's files without needing to blat any
images so I'm happy ;-) no blat coming up yet but I will investigate
why FutureCats plus payment didn't show up.

BTW none of you in here are using a huge amount of space. One Plus
user (not in this discussion group) is using 3Gigs which is about as
much as everyone else added together!!

Anyway hope that allays everyone's fears, Hamipiks stays!
