I am running:
Apache
ColdFusion 8 Multiserver Development
WINXP SP3
IIS disabled

I tried installing FusionDebug to 127.0.0.1:8001 and if killed my
jadmin administrator service. When I restored my jvm.config it worked
again. Is there a way to have FusionDebug and the jadmin services
running also?

Also, how should I install FusionDebug in my Apache virtual hosts file
and my Windows hosts file?

Well, it sounds like your jadmin uses 8001 already, so you just need to
choose another. During install you get to choose the port you want to use,
don't you? But if you've not uninstalled, just change things manually. The
port is specified in that jvm.config file in one line (java.args), which
would have been modified by the installer. Did you save that version when
you restored the old one? If so, just put the needed arguments back in with
a new port. If you read the FD manual, it gives more details about making
these manual changes in the jvm.config (chapter 6).

As for hooking it up with Apache, that's covered in chapter 11.

Not really meaning to come off with a RTFM vibe. Just saying that you don't
reference them, so rather than repeat things, it seems best to point you
there first, and then ask you to clarify your questions if not answered
there.

Hope that helps.

Hi Charlie, please note that I did everything you suggested which
meant me running the wizard again and this time assigning port 8010 to
FD and it still killed my jadmin.
But before I assigned port 8010 I checked to see if it was being used
with active ports. Also jadmin is using port 8000 not 8001.

Thanks,

GM

GM (Is this George?), there's some confusion here. You had said originally,

"I tried installing FusionDebug to 127.0.0.1:8001 and if killed my
jadmin administrator service. When I restored my jvm.config it worked
again." That was the only reason I proposed a possible conflict with 8001.
You're now saying that it's using port 8000. So I don't see how FD's being
set to use that port would then cause a conflict.

Let's clarify some more things. You refer to a "jadmin service". Do you mean
the JRun Admin service? Are you running CF in multi-instance (or what's
formally called MultiServer) mode? If so, are you then referring to the
"Macromedia JRun Admin Server"?

Also, you say that this "killed it", but that doesn't seem quite right. Do
you mean it kept it from starting? It's an important difference.

Assuming that's what you mean, I'd ask do you really need it running at all?
It's not really needed from CF7 on, as that has the Instance Manager feature
built into the CF Admin for creating, starting, and controlling CF
instances. The JRun admin is really a holdover from the deployment of the CF
multiserver mode on a "full" JRun instance. If you never really use that
JRun admin, you don't need it for CF, in my experience at least. If you
didn't start it, does everything then work?

It sounds like there's still more to get to the bottom of, and certainly
there's no reason FD should be left causing a conflict (or potential one),
so let us know your thoughts on the above.
