Firmware 18.0 is supported but the needed patches need to be updated. Launch the installer while connected to the internet and it will download the new patches automatically.

Some users reported random crashes while installing a theme, I have not been able to reproduce it.

I have seen WiX doing wonders in creating an msi which adopts to the current theme of windows. My curiosity is that whether we can hard code any theme for WiX. Whether we can design the look and feel. Is there any link where somebody has tried it and put their code for others to learn ??
The themes provided on hShop are actually theme installers. They do not install to the official theme selector on the HOME Menu. Rather, they are used with Anemone3DS.

When you open a theme installer, you will see a bit of text on the top screen of your 3DS. It will show you where it will copy the theme ZIP, as well as asking you to press any key except the HOME button and the POWER button to start the process. It looks like this:
When the copying process is done, pressing any key will cause the application to exit and self-destruct. Yes, self-destruct. It will delete itself from your 3DS, leaving behind only the theme ZIP it just copied onto your SD card.
I decided to visit Gnome's Theme library and found a theme I like. I downloaded the theme and tried to use the install feature in the theme panel. As soon as I click okay after finding the theme package my system freezes.
It's a tool written in JAVA that will simplify the installation of PSVita custom themes in your app.db file. With this application infact you can install a new custom theme in your PSVita app.db file automatically. All you need to do is to pass a app.db file and your custom theme info, the program automatically will write every record in the db by itself.
In addition to string and integer params this program supports also SQL blobs, so you can give your theme even a title and an author. In this way, in your PSVita Theme Settings page there will be really no difference between an official theme and your custom theme!

Run the app. On the first run, it will ask if you want to patch the UXTheme files. Patching is required if you want to use 3rd party themes. If you haven't already patched the files (or if you are not sure), click Yes. After some time Windows will automatically log off indicating the patching has been done. Login and run the app again.

So I made the successful change to 'Raptor'. Everything i can find is good except one very small query. When I open Snapper tools the theme is not dark but light. It is the only window like this. Everything else is dark and all the selected themes are the correct ones.
The main objective is to develop a complete toolset to create and install custom themes on the switch. As the console os doesn't implement custom themes natively most of this is done by patching system SZS files to get the desired aspect.
Unfortunately, SZS files from the switch os contain copyrighted data and can't be shared online that's why the nxtheme format has been developed, it contains only differential info and can be freely shared. Unless you're dealing with making your own patches and custom layouts you should only use nxtheme files.
When a new firmware comes out before upgrading (or downgrading) remember to uninstall any theme you have installed to avoid compatibility issues, if you forget your console may not boot untill the theme is removed as explained next.
In case your console doesn't boot anymore due to a bad theme (mostly with szs themes) delete the \atmosphere\contents\01000000001000 folder from your sd (it's \\titles\01000000001000 for old atmosphere and other CFWs), now your console should be booting, launch the theme installer and select uninstall theme to finish the cleanup process.
The GUI only works on Windows. However, on Linux, you can use the CLI through mono. You will need the "mono-complete" package. Then, you should be able to launch the app by running "mono SwitchThemes.exe help".
This will build a theme for the home menu, instead of home you can use: lock for lockscreen, apps for the all apps screen, set for the settings applet, user for the user page applet and news for the news applet. Only the image and out file args are needed.
Custom layouts are JSON files that allow you to change the appearance of the home menu by moving the UI components. To create a custom layout, you will need the original home menu szs files found in /themes/systemData on your SD card (if you ever used the theme installer) and a tool capable of editing them like the Switch Layout Editor.
There are two main causes: the archive bit is set for the themes folder and the SD card is corrupted. The former happens mainly if you use a Mac but really depends on how you create the themes folder. The latter is often caused by exFAT on your SD card. Try to delete the themes folder and launch the installer, and it will create it again. Now just copy the themes, and it should work.
If it still doesn't work, it could be corruption. In this case, the best option is to backup the SD contents and format it to FAT32. If you have games installed, don't worry as the Switch OS automatically splits them into

Yes and no. The UI won't work, but you can still create themes using the command line interface (more information available on GitHub). Additionally, you'll need to provide images in DDS file format as the included converter requires DirectX, which is only available on Windows.
i have been spending most of the morning searching around trying to find out how i install a custom theme but so far have completly failed! i have a few downloaded from xfce-look.org i would like to try.
Yes, the GTK theme and icon theme are done in settings/appearance, while the window theme is in settings/window manager. You also can easily install new themes (including window manager themes) in XFCE by opening the appearance app, and dragging any theme.gz/zip/tar.gz theme or icon theme right into the appearance tab. This automatically installs the theme to /.themes or /.icons (user level). For System level, you still need to do it manually in /usr/share/themes or /usr/share/icons. I love XFCE!
