A key update and significant technical change to the previous editions include the extension of the frequency range for radiated emissions up to 6 GHz in EN55014-1 and EN 55014-2, the extension of the frequency range for radiated immunity up to 6 GHz.

This extension of the frequency ranges for both radiated emissions and immunity now brings EN 55014 into alignment with other product-specific standards. For manufacturers, it means if they have a product that includes a clock frequency greater than 108 MHz, they will need to consider the additional radiated emissions testing.

Likewise, from an immunity perspective, if they have a mains-powered product that includes a clock frequency greater than 200 MHz, they will need to consider the new equipment category 5 requirements resulting in additional radiated immunity testing.

The addition of requirements for wired network ports also means affected products will require additional tests.

EN 55014 EMC testing applies to the conduction and the radiation of radio-frequency disturbances from appliances whose main functions are performed by motors and switching or regulating devices, unless the r.f. energy is intentionally generated or intended for illumination. Other devices that must comply with an EN 55014 test include separate parts of the mentioned equipment such as motors, and switching devices e.g. (power or protective) relays. However, no emission requirements apply unless formulated in this standard. Conversely, excluded from the requirements of an EN-55014 test are apparatus for which all emission requirements in the radio frequency range are explicitly formulated in other IEC or CISPR standards.

This Amendment contains the German version of the European Amendment EN 55014-1:2017/A11:2020. It adds a new Annex ZZ in EN 55014-1:2017. Hereby the new annex also informs that clause 7 of the standard which describes a procedure for the statistical assessment of the conformity of series produced equipment shall not be applied for the presumption of conformity with essential requirements of the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU. The standard specifies limits and the associated measuring methods for the electromagnetic emission of household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus. The requirements apply for the frequency range 9 kHz to 400 GHz.
