DEC083716 Skelebunnies: the Complete Collection tp 120pg, b&w $10.95
by Tommy Kovac
'Join these living-dead abominations in a playful, episodic romp through
the forest. You'll meet their adorable servants, the Woobies, who come
in three distinct varieties: Devil Woobies, Bat Woobies, and Mushroom
Woobies. You'll also meet the Skellies' faithful flying zombie steed,
the dainty Pretty-Pretty Pony Macabre (she has some seriously bad
luck!). And of course there's the Skelebunnies' most bipolar and
boy-crazy frenemy, Satan. Along the way you'll encounter the rather
judgmental Baby Dwarf Bears, the savage Baba Yaga, the aptly-named
Buttwing, and a host of other characters and stories. Are the
Skelebunnies mean-spirited? Sometimes. Does it all make sense? Not
really. What's the point? To giggle, my friends, to giggle!'
I really like Tommy Kovac's weird stories, like *Stitch* (where the
Skelebunnies first appeared as a second feature), and especially
*Autumn*, which I really really wish he'd finish. Since I already have
more than half of this material from the comics of 2000-2003, I'm not
going to get it sight unseen. But if it's new to you and you like the
weirdness of other Slave Laborers--say, Jamie Smart's *Ubu Bubu* and
Jhonen Vasquez's *Johnny the Homicidal Maniac*--I recommend it.

'Taking a pause from the Monstres sub-series, Zenith returns! This time
with the art of Boulet but still written by the Sfar/Trondheim duo! Two
stories continue the heyday of Dungeon. In the first, Isis is to be
married to the Keeper, but she wants Herbert! Besides, the whole affair
promises to ruin the Dungeon completely. In the second, besides the
continued Keeper financial mishaps, Herbert wishes to make his comeback
to his hometown where his name is mud. He disguises himself with a
potion that makes him "the mask of death." Only one problem -- if he
laughs, he becomes himself again!' Recommended. The first two DZ volumes
