Hi Everyone,

As many of you know I'm bringing Water Guru and Permaculturist, Brad
Lancaster, to town to do some teaching. As the subject line says he
will be doing a shorter presentation and book signing on Friday
evening, Oct. 7th from 7-9, and an All Day Workshop on Water
Harvesting on Sat., October 8th from 9 am - 4:30 pm.

Friday evening is $20
Saturday's workshop is a Two Tiered system based on what you can
afford.
Either $85 or $110.
IF for some reason you can not afford any of this but are really
wanting to attend give me a call or shoot me an e-mail and we'll see
if we can work out a work exchange or something. Really trying hard
to make sure I don't take a loss on this one, so please pay if you can
afford to.

Here is some info on the Friday evening talk and book signing:
(By the way, his books will be available for sale over that weekend)
Although rainwater harvesting has been accomplished by humans in
virtually every drought vulnerable region of the world for millennia,
our society seems to have collective amnesia about the utility,
efficiency, sustainability and beauty of these time-tried practices.

In his best-selling, award-winning books, Rainwater Harvesting for
Drylands and Beyond, Volume 1 and Volume 2, Brad Lancaster encourages
us to turn water scarcity into water abundance by welcoming rainwater,
stormwater runoff, and greywater into our lives, landscape, and soil.
Sharing techniques and strategies from around the world, some ancient,
some new, from the home scale to the neighborhood and community scale,
readers are empowered to create their own integrated water-sustainable
landscape plans, and implement them.

Rainwater harvesting is the process of capturing rain and maximizing
its use as close as possible to where it falls. By harvesting
rainwater on the land – within the soil and vegetation, or in cisterns
that will later irrigate the land, we can control erosion, reduce
flooding, and minimize water pollution. Living in a world with a
finite supply of fresh water that is increasingly polluted this
practice becomes especially valuable.

Saturday's workshop info:
General Water-Harvesting Presentation:

Turning Drains Into Sponges and Water Scarcity Into Water Abundance

Long description:
This inspiring power point presentation shares eight universal
principles of water harvesting along with simple strategies that turn
water scarcity into water abundance. They empower you to create
integrated water-sustainable landscape plans at home and throughout
your community. Rainwater harvesting is the process of capturing rain
and making the most of it as close as possible to where it falls.
Greywater harvesting is the process of directing water from household
sink, bathtub, shower, and washing machine drains into the soils of
the landscape where the water is naturally filtered and reused to
generate more on-site resources. The two work hand in hand, and can
reduce our water consumption by 30 to 50%! You'll see examples
enhancing local food security, passively cooling cities in summer,
reducing costs of living and energy consumption, controlling erosion,
averting flooding, reviving dead waterways, minimizing water
pollution, building community, creating celebration, and more.

The Hands-On portion will be a project on the Eco-Inn sight to harvest
rain water from their impermeable driveway into their orchard area.
This is subject to change after Brad assesses the property on Friday
afternoon, but that is the plan. One way or the other, we will be
doing a hands-on workshop to harvest water on the property and see the
methodologies he teaches put into action.

Still wondering what the heck is happening? Don't know who Brad
Lancaster is? Please see his bio on our web site at www.madisonareapermacultureguild.org
or check out his web site at www.HarvestingRainwater.com

This is an incredible opportunity to see an internationally recognized
Permaculture Water specialist and learn from him.

One more thing, on Friday at noon there will be a brown bag lunch
presentation by Brad for Policy makers, City staff, etc. If you know
of someone who should be hearing what Brad has to say, please send me
their names and e-mail addresses and I will be sure they get the
invite!!!

You can register by e-mailing Kate at sevent...@mailbag.com with
