Had a Skype interview with a digital production house that my supervisor from last summer introduced me to. And I have nooooooooooooo idea how it went. YAY FOR BEING UNSURE!!! So they asked me what I was expecting salary-wise, and I panicked and said "high 30s," and I'm afraid I'm low-balling myself. I know it's entry-level work no matter what, but UGH IT'S NYC. Gonna go die now.

I was "lucky" enough that MFA didn't negotiate -- they just gave me an offer of 30K and I went with it because a) it's mid-range for an entry level graphic design position and b) it's Indianapolis; you can make that kind of salary work down here with no problem. Or minimum problem, anyway. Also hello laydeez, now you know my salary. ;D That said, when I was in the middle of the interview process, I googled the median salary of an entry level graphic designer, which helped me w/r/t salary expectations. If nothing else, you'll know if you undersold yourself or not by that point. I FEEL LIKE THIS ISN'T HELPFUL AT ALL.

However, you give fabulous advice and have great exp. with video interviews; I want to believe, guys, so hard. And lbr, Erica, you're fabulous. So I'm going to give all the good vibes and hope for the best! <3

I don't know about NYC, but I think high 30s is dece for entry level (unless you're in like management consulting or engineering).  I'm looking into becoming a public servant and not making nearly that much.

UGH the salary question is the worst -- generally I go a-googling for comparable salaries in the city, then aim for the middle (e.g. I requested 33k the other day). Which also protects from "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE WORTH THAT MUCH" bc then you can be like "Wellll statistics say that this is what everyone else is getting paid, so..."

HAHAHA yes i figured most entry level gigs (still not sure exactly what the job entails, i think they're kind of just looking for a new bitch, but hopefully i'll at least be doing client services/project management like i've done in the past) are around 30k, so yeah upped it for nyc. WE'LL FOUND OUT UGH
