PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE TOO GOOD TO GIVE YOU A REJECTION LETTER UNTIL YOU KINDLY ASK THEM IF THEY'VE READ YOUR RESPONSE TO THE JOB.

That's all. But seriously, those people can just go fuck themselves! Wholeheartedly! In related news, guess what my response to the super-shitty and incredibly easy illustration job was!!!!

To answer Julie's query: I was in the secondary interview stage, wherein I was asked to do an illustration test with multiple prompts. I'm not sure if this is the proper forum, but I should show you the images I submitted vs. the example "illustrations" from the company; I am hardly the kind of person to toot my own horn, but I will be honest in saying that what they wanted was below my talent ability, which I think is what's really fueling my ire. I made really good sketches and this lady is like LOL GONNA LEAVE U HANGIN. So it was kind of like-- intermediate stage, like if you went in for an interview and they never called back, I think. It was certainly wasn't just "not answering your resume," which is admittedly understandable (but okay, form e-mail much? seriously, don't you know how to use the internet? obviously, am agreeing with Heather and Loren on this here).

OKAY GOOD you get where I was driving at, so I feel less like a douche now. Because like, I can completely understand them not responding to rejected applications, form e-mail or not -- some jobs get like 400+ applicants, and would you really want to be that person responding to each and every single one with a form email? it's not a productive use of their time when recruitment itself is a time-wasting process. Having been on a hiring committee where we only received like, 12 applicants, we still didn't contact the rejects to say thx but no thx, since we had so much other shit going on.

But I definitely, definitely shake my fist at not hearing back after an interview. :(   If you've bothered to haul a person in for a physical in-person interview, I'd damn well appreciate the courtesy of an official response. Sadly, tho, it's so damn common that you have to nudge them even after an AWESOME, AMAZEBALLS interview to get your 'no' -- the only companies that ever contacted me outright to say "sorry :(" were a research institute and a law firm.

HAHAHA JULIE YOU ARE LIKE THE OPPOSITE OF A DOUCHE. But yeah, it was involved enough that this person could've at least said "sorry, not into it" (and did with a quick five-minute e-mail once I double-checked) so u g h. Also, lbr: pet peeves do not necessarily reflect the actual landscape of corporate America/reality a lot of the time, so don't worry -- I'm not like sitting over here, expecting the most out of these companies or anything. I just happen to be quietly irritated by the inevitable. A disclaimer, too: in true artistic form, do not really understand/mesh well within corporate America. LIKE ACADEMIA WILL BE MUCH DIFFERENT ONCE I GET INTO THE HIERARCHY, BUT I DIGRESS AS I GO BACK TO THE JOBBING DRAWING BOARD/DISTRACT MYSELF WITH AN APPLICATION.

Also that happened to me last year, I definitely went through the entire hiring process and the woman doing the hiring had all but said I got the job and then...absolutely nothing.  And now one of the ladies who did my initial interview comes in for coffee sometimes at the coffee shop and she recognizes me so it's kinnnnd of awkward.
