SORRY, THIS IS JUST ME TL;DRING ABOUT MY SITCH 8(  I need to venttt.

As blathered elsewhere, tomorrow is the final (!?) interview for an editorial assistant position w/ a publishing house that I want like burning. Then: a few days ago I FINALLY heard back from an investment firm re: their editorial & production assistant position. To revisit backstory, this firm was literally the most frustrating experience in my entire jobhunt -- some sort of SNAFU had happened there, because they'd invited me to a phone interview, then when I responded listing my available times, they didn't respond to me for 2 months. 2 MONTHS!!!! I WANTED TO MURDER THEM. The HR woman apologised in her recent email and said that the hiring manager had experienced ~scheduling difficulties~ that hadn't resolved until recently, so I'm inclined to think there was illness or a death in the family or something that fucked up the hiring process. idk. idk idk idk.

All of which kind of affected my enthusiasm for this interview when it FINALLY happened, though, plus I obvs want to be in publishing more. So much so that I almost emailed you guys earlier to be like "ugh I have a phone interview for a job I've already decided I don't want, wat do. :| I suspect I am literally going to phone it in!!!"

Buuuut I just had my preliminary phone interview -- and as almost always happens to me during one of these, it increased my interest in the position and made go "wait........... now I really want this??" My biggest worries going in were a) knowing jack-all about the financial sector, and b) that it might be a really high-stress environment.

But after talking to the guy, he reassured me with: a) confirming what I already knew, that it's easier to teach someone about a new industry rather than teach a finance guru how to write well; and b) he said that it would be a small friendly team, a v. collegial environment, "they take the work seriously but not themselves", they'll offer lots of guidance rather than tossing me in the deep end, there's not a lot of turnover, the position would gradually accrue more and more writing & project responsibilities as time went on, etc. All of which ended with me doing an about-turn and like OH SNAP THIS ACTUALLY SOUNDS PRETTY AWESOME?? If the publishing house falls through, I think I could be super happy with this as a compromise -- I could accrue editorial/production experience in a different sector, then eventually segue back into publishing later.

idk what the point of this email is, apart to scream I'M SO EXCITED, I'M SO SCARED!!! Because the last time I was up for two different jobs that I really wanted, I got neither of them. :(  I'm totally okay going back to the internship grind, but at this point I just want to know what's going to happen to me. MAKE THE UNCERTAINTY END, sigh.  #funemployedproblems

AHHHH that's nerve-wracking!! TBH i have no idea what i'd do in your position. however the finance thing actually sounds pretty cool, and at the very least something ~different~ than what you would get at a publishing house...and then later, if you went the traditional publishing route, they might be all "OOOH WOW WHAT DIVERSE EXPERIENCE SHE HAS!"

but eeep either way i hope you get ONE of these jobs!!! because of course it wouldn't be any easier if both were like YAY WE LOVE YOU because then you would still have to decide. wow i am terrible at giving advice right now.

also oooo finance boys *_* hahahaha just kidding, except i'm not kidding, i still love bros :/

THANKFULLY if I actually do have to choose between the two, I know that I'd go with publishing in a heartbeat -- because lbr, novels are more interesting than investment prospectuses (prospecti?).

I just hope SOMETHING happens, ugh. Because the last time I got all hopeful and starry-eyed and "I FEEL REALLY GREAT ABOUT THIS, SURELY AT LEAST ONE OF THESE TWO COMPANIES WILL GIVE ME AN OFFER!! :)", then they didn't, and I felt like an idiot for having talked to people about it, and thus wanted to dress up as Wile E. Coyote and fling myself off a cliff. lawdddd.

UGH I KNOW I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! like "oh yes i'm for SURE doing this thing," and then you don't get it and you have to go back with your tail between your legs...BUT I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!

also hahahaha, when my mom and i left your apartment i told her i met you guys online "because i used to be really into harry potter" (IDK IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA) and then i said you guys were in publishing, and she was like "oooh, is that why they had all those books?"
