Fundraising and Business Development Coordinator
 

Description:

Hua Dan, one of China’s leading participatory arts based community organizations and social enterprises, is currently recruiting for the position of Fundraising and Business Development Coordinator.

The position will provide the successful candidate with a truly unique and exciting opportunity to be a part of a young and energetic organization committed to creating and running sustainable and high impact arts based community programmes in China that inspire the realization of individual and community potential.

The position suits a young graduate with two to three years work experience and a proven track record in sales and fundraising who is looking for a chance to work in development in China and help lead a young, creative and mission driven organization reach its goals. With ambitious plans for the organization, particularly in regards to the development of a successful social enterprise model, the candidate will play a central role in helping Hua Dan reach its full potential!

The ideal candidate will have excellent English and Chinese language skills, an ability to work sensitively in a multi-cultural environment, a great desire to take on new challenges and an ability to maintain flexibility in a dynamic and quickly changing work environment.

Main Purpose of the Job
To devise, develop and deliver a comprehensive strategic and tactical plan for business development and fundraising activity for Hua Dan. This means meeting set quarterly fundraising targets promptly and with confidence!

Objectives
1. To develop and deliver the strategy for Hua Dan’s Business Development and Funding, appropriate to need and responsive to opportunity, in close collaboration with the Management Team, and the CEO. This includes:
• Working effectively across the organisation to identify current funding requirements for core activities and specific projects and match these to opportunities
• Develop annual fundraising strategy and clear quarterly targets- which includes making risk analyses and balancing time-cost ratios to focus effort upon the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success;
• Meeting these fundraising targets through grant-making bodies (incl. institutional donors, trusts and foundations, and others), corporate entities and other new partnering opportunities, commercial sponsors and other income generating activities consistent with Hua Dan’s core purposes.
• Researching, developing, and submitting proposals to funders; ensuring that all relevant deadlines are met and that reports and any required information are submitted in a timely fashion.
• Provide detailed reports about the fundraising progress of the organisation to the CEO, GM and Board on a regular basis;
• To stay appropriately networked and keep abreast of trends, news, events and deadlines, so that all possible, new or enhanced funding opportunities are exploited

2. To initiate and manage key actual and potential strategic relationships for Hua Dan. This includes:
• Developing and maintaining close working relationships with the philanthropic community, individual and corporate donors, sponsors, board members and volunteers;
• Overseeing the maintenance and expansion of the organization’s database of supporters
• Ensuring that all supporters and partners are appropriately thanked and receive regular communication from Hua Dan
• Overseeing all progress reports to donors and foundations
• On winning a new partnership ensure comprehensive and smooth handover to appropriate member of staff

3. To innovate and offer new ideas and approaches for developing the Hua Dan Business, building relationships with other prospective business partners, and with other networks and members where appropriate.

4. To create and oversee all of Hua Dan’s communication activities which directly support fundraising activities. This includes:
• Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for Hua Dan’s mission and programs in the community- this may involve giving talks to groups or dealing with the media;
• Developing and coordinating web-based fundraising
• Maintaining website, quarterly newsletter and all other communications material
• Developing and maintaining the Hua Dan brand

5. Ensure work is conducted within the context of the overall governance and management of Hua Dan, its values and long-term strategy.

Required Experience: The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
• At least three years of sales and/or fundraising experience with a proven track record of meeting monetary targets (This will be asked for in interview)
• Demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets; ability to work in an hands-on environment with limited resources;
• Ability to effectively gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including board and staff members, donors and foundations
• A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual donors, corporations and foundations;
• A track record as an effective communicator;
• Excellent English and Chinese language skills
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

• Energetic and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities; and
• Confident and sensitive to working in a cross cultural environment with people from many different backgrounds
• Enthusiasm, good humour, and ability to time manage and work effectively under pressure.
