Idid however find one step missing and it might help other users. When doing the following step: "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Next, select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". If that user as well as other do not then it will not install correctly. I have attached screen shots to explain a little better. But you have run the program with administrative rights.
2 For my Camcorder,there are 4 buttons.
A On/Off
B Memory Mode
C Network Mode
D VCR Mode
Change it to Memory Stick Mode, otherwise, the PC may recognize
the HandCam as the Memory storage ONLY. The Memory Stick
mode is actually the View Mode. If it does not work, try to move out
the VCR(MINI DV Tape)and the memory stick.
SONY tells me I MUST use firewire (which I'm expecting from Amazon any day now). Even buying firewire you have to be careful. There is 4 pin, 6 pin and 9 pin, so, before you go out and buy a firewire cable, make sure you know what you need AT BOTH ENDS! My Handycam requires a 4 pin while my computer needs 6 pin. FORTUNATELY, the three look very different. Just Google "firewire" and you will see what I mean. Oh yes, I almost forgot...both sides IN MY CASE must be male. So, when you buy a firewire, you have to know how many pins each side needs and the gender.
You DO need SONY's "Picture Motion Browser" software as well. Their site has the current version (4.2.10). Telephone support with SONY (now don't get a heart attack) was actually GOOD. The woman actually knew what she was talking about. All this transpired just late last week.
P.S. Search the web for good deals on the firewire you need. Also, getting back to Ultimate 64 bit headaches, you will sometimes need to use Internet Explorer 32 bit (which comes with Vista Ultimate 64 bit along with IE 64 bit) to play videos from some sites.
I am on the last step where I instructed the computer to installed the program any way. All your instruction work well so far but I do not know what I did wrong because is not working could you please help me?
1- I do know how to find the sony digital video on my records I guess my computer brand does not have a title divece manager but I found the "Sound, video and game controllers".my control panel and I do not know what is next since I can not find the sony digital video.
2- Under my computer I see the sony usb and when I click I seen These windows and when I click the is sending me to a Microsoft website.
3- Also when I turning the camara I going to play edit and it show USB select
Square 1 memory stick
Square 2 stream
Square 3 PctBridge Print not a highlight o option on this time
Square 4 Burn VCD
After the installation:
I can see the handycam DCR-TRV250 on the device manager.
Using USB cable the Windows Movie Maker can not detect it.
Using USB cable the Cyberlink Power Director V6 detect it and it can picture great, but I can't get sound.
I own a Sony DCR-HC42 Handycam. I, too ended up having to get ahold of the 'SPU_Installer0907b.exe' update installer for any/all of the Vista, Windoze 7 installs that I work with. However, the original disk that came with the Handycam, is in storage, and so too, would have been my access to the CD Part Number that rested with it. In the mean time they pissed me off enough. So, hear it is:
There will be a notice that says your device was successfully installed and then you can check on the Device Manager and you'll see the handycam under Imaging Devices as 'Sony Digital Imaging Video' and under the Sound devices as 'USB Audio.' I use Cyberlink PowerDirector and Ulead as movie editors and they should be able to detect it.
