THE SLAIN LAMB

Exodus 12:6

Introduction: In the previous messages, we saw the lamb selected. The lamb was picked out from a group of sheep. The Lord Jesus was selected before the foundation of the world.

1st Peter 1:19-20

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you”

This lamb had to be scrutinized or examined carefully for blemish or spots. If any spots or blemishes found, the lamb could be used. The Lord Jesus was examined carefully His whole life. But those few days, He was examined carefully by six different trials. He should be set free but the plan of God was for these days before, during and after He was crucified.

Here is a practical part of the message. Our lives are under examination every day also. We should live our lives in a way that people can see Jesus in us.

Today we will be seeing the lamb slain. Today we will be rejoicing when we see Jesus. Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up. Isaiah 6:1-3

In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” “Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.” “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

We need to remember what Jesus said in John twelve.

John 12:32

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”

Today we will be doing just that. We are lifting up our lovely Lord Jesus.

III. THE LAMB SLAIN Vs. 6

“And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.”

You could love, feed and protect the lamb. But if you do not kill that lamb, it will not do you any good.

A. When was the lamb slain? In verse six, it said it was in the evening. This may start to be a little boring but I promise it will be exciting shortly. The Jewish people was supposed to kill the lamb in the evening. That is three o'clock in the afternoon. Our Lamb died at three o'clock. Jesus' blood was shed for us.

B. What happened after the lamb was killed? The blood was applied to the doorposts of the house. How does apply to us?

Revelation 3:20

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

The day we were saved, the blood was applied to the doorpost of our hearts. The blood of the Lord Jesus cleansed us from all sins.

1st John 1:7-9

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

It is not enough to know Christ shed His blood. He must be received as YOUR Savior and the blood applied to your heart.

John 1:12-13

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

The blood was applied to the door posts and lintel. Those in the house had to pass “through the blood.” It was the blood that protected them from the death angel. The songwriter wrote these words.

AND IT'S STILL THE BLOOD

THAT SAVES FROM SIN

IT'S STILL THE BLOOD THAT CLEANSES WITHIN

FROM THE HIGHEST STAR IN HEAVEN

TO THE DEPTHS OF THE SEA

IT IS STILL THE BLOOD OF JESUS

THAT BRINGS VICTORY TO ME

Faith is required. Hebrews 11:24-28

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;” “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;” “Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” “By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” “Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

The children of Israel had to believe the blood of the lamb would protect them from “the destroyer.” We had to believe by faith that Jesus would save.

Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

John 6:37

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

The power of the blood of Jesus Christ saved you from the judgment of God. It is the blood of the Lord Jesus redeemed us from the bondage of sin. For years I have spoken to people who were under bondage. Some were under the bondage of liquor. Some were under the bondage of drugs. Some were under the bondage of religion. But the blood of Jesus Christ broke the bondage. That is one of the reasons that Jesus came. Isaiah 61:1

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound”

C. What happened after the lamb was slain? The shophar or the ram's horn is blown to symbolize that the lamb was killed. This tradition continued.

The ram's horn was blown on Calvary with these words “It is finished”. When Jesus died, the ram's horn was blown at that moment when Jesus died.

Conclusion: The Lord Jesus was the lamb that slain before the foundation of the world. By faith, you take as Saviour. His blood protects us from the devil.

Today you can have this same Lamb as your Saviour. Jesus is the lamb of God. He wants to be your lamb. He will take away your sin. Romans 10:9, 13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
