Listening to Ajax Requests?

I am trying to test the submission of a form via an ajax request. I
want to see that that strings from the form are submitted properly
after some client side manipulation.
I could write some unit tests for the string handling routine (perhaps
that's really the best way to do this), but I would love to write some
assertions against the outgoing data. Is there a way to listen to
ajax events from Funcunit?
